both have pro and cons.

i like vignetting.
i seldom use flash, yet i like to take photos in low light.
in terms of light-sensitivity, no APS-C sensor can ever beat a full frame.
FF sensor is 156% bigger than an APS-C.
so the difference is 1.36 stop.
that's a big deal of difference!
for some lens, the price difference for 1.36 stop is already close to HK$10k.
at high ISO, the difference is even more obviously.
much less noise on a FF.

Canon lens, more choices for FF.
although i must admit, more and more are coming out for APS-C.
but talk abt L-optics (Canon's Pro series lens)  there's not a single one available for APS-C. (correct me if i'm wrong)
APS-C lens for Canon uses EF-S mounting, which means they can't be used on FF cameras.
i love the 10-22mm lens, but can't fit on my FF cameras.

as for people who chases megapixels on cameras.
unless you are printing for the billboard, why do you need so much megapixels?
generally more pixels = more noise & lower sensitivity.

anyone who uses SLR and changes lens often enough will know that dust will get into the sensor.
and dust on a FF looks 1.6 times smaller than APS-C.
and for me, it's easier to clean a FF sensor. (more space)

many people argue APS-C is more for casual photographers who don't want to spend too much $$$.
i thought so that way too.
so my first DSLR was a 350D.
but as i gradually demand more from my photos, the small sensor and limited lens doesn't work for me anymore.
so i switched to 2nd-hand FF cameras.
affordable and so much difference in photo quality.

now my old APS-C camera and lens are in the storeroom.
only used when i want to travel light. ...

Am i right in saying that Full Frame cameras are more difficult use or is that just an urban myth.....

Are you one of those geeks that carry tripods around bro....  Taking shots in low light needs a minimum shutter speed of one second and all kinds of things could go wrong in that time or does the Full Frame camera doesn't need that long because it has a larger sensor....

Looks as if you are the right bro to ask about " COMPOSITION"...

Any tips...

Besides the huge names, there are some specialty stores like
http://cam2.com.hk/
and
DC Career (don't know website even after a search)

These stores generally have guys who are much more technically knowledgeable and both have locations in MK.  The latter is in the computer centre tho, not on the street.  Prices may be better at these, especially if you are OK with "water goods" which are equivalent models imported from Japan or elsewhere.  These stillhave the warranties (make sure it's an international warranty) and are new, but are slightly cheaper for some reason.
...

Thanks for the link bro...

RICO doesn't think that if you buy camera equipment in HK.. You would get an International warranty....

Even if you do get an International warranty...You would still need to send it off for repair or service...

Usually international warranty means "within Asia" so if you're outside of it.. you're still screwed!

I know what you mean bro....

RICO had a Lumix FZ100 at Christmas and soon got fed up with it and traded it in for the 550D....

I was getting very frustrated with the bridge camera because it was very limited.....

I still like the Canon 550D more than the 7D....

In my opinion the 550D is more forgiving and user friendly or is it just in my mind.....

There is one shot where i just can't seem to get right...

It's the picture below of a stained glass in a church....

Any tips on how to take this shot bros.....

nope, 350D and 5D have 99% same controls.
so i don't see why full frame cameras are more difficult to use.

yes, that's the beauty of full frame.
but of course, it depends on the lens too, how large the aperture is...

Any tips...

go to any photography forum, and you see 2 groups of people, forever at each other's necks.
one kind who don't believe in expensive gadgets, and feels that with their skill, even a disposable camera can take good shots, because they have good composition.
the other kind thinks that having the latest technology and most expensive camera makes their photos better.

well...
i will not judge any of them...

for me.. what's sufficient to produce good photos are....

1) any camera that's capable of taking photos in RAW format.
2) proficient in Lightroom/Photoshop/Elements
3) a calibrated monitor (calibrated printer would be even better)

composition is important, but can be learnt thru experience.

if you want tips from me..
i say "Start snapping"
by the time you have 10,000 pics in your HD, i think you are considered a pro.
if not, please throw your camera away, and just stick to punting as your hobby.

Good old adult work! You cannot beat it!

I am not sure whether you will remember Rico but when I was at home at Christmas I was supposed to be going to Manchester and Summer was one of the girls I was going to call. Glad I didnt now.

I have Nikon D3100 - I hardly use it to be honest though but my colleague loves it!

"Technically speaking if your lense is F1.8 or F2.8 then there is no need to use the flash.."
No need if you're ok with grainy photos with high ISO. Flash does make a big difference in image quality. And for example it's hard sometimes get enough light to a girl's face in a hotel room without flash; eye sockets may be in darkness.

I agree skinny, doing away with the flash results in a high ISO being used, lots of noise on the pictures.
I prefer to use the flash, I tend to fix the ISO on 400. Do you fix the ISO?
The other thing I find is that I need to drop the flash exposure by about 1/3 - 2/3 a stop.

I have used the flash so little that I don't yet have a feeling what would be best. Mostly have left at 400 as well.

Have not experimented with flash exposure settings yet either, but would need to as in some photos the flash has been way too powerful even when bounced with diffuser.

Hey guys..

read the first 2 pages and gave up coz there is so much info..

anyway for whats its worth, i'm not in hk however i went to HK to check out prices for lenses. I found that it wasnt any different from the net, so i bought 2 lenses and a flash on line. The 85mm f1.2 and the 70 to 200 2USM IS, and the 580 flash. I found that the delivery was fast and the service was great. What was interesting was that the prices fluctuated with the exchange rate. As i am from australia i ended up buying the lenses cheaper than what i could have gotten it whilst i was in hk (as credit cards attract a 2% foreign exchange fee).
I also use a canon 5d and have a 50mm f1.2 prime.
I do prefer prime lenses, and as i am in the market now for a wide angle i am in a dilemma as to whether i want a prime or a zoom which offers more flexibility.
One more thing.. if any one out there is interested in the 5d... hold off as i heard rumours that the mark 3 might be released in march..

After a conversation with bro Weelok on small lightweight cameras with full 1080 hd ....

It has got RICO thinking of a backup lightweight camera...( I have a Lumix FS15 at the moment...)

After doing a little bit of research...I found that there are a lot of small cameras with those specs but then i decided to research further and look at high end lightweight cameras...

The two candidates are....

1... Olympus E-P2..

2... Sigma DP1X...

What do you think bros and what light weight camera do you have in your arsenal....

Tried the Olympus XZ1 the other day, not bad for a lightweight backup.

If only it had a bigger sized sensor (only 1/1.63).
