I see that all the quotes here especially by marsupial point to a very low risk of HIV transmission by a single encounter.

But as mentioned by someone else, it really doesn't add up how then some countries have as high as 20% of population being infected. Surely they don't fuck everyday. Or are we going to propose that black dicks are larger and cause more friction and therefore they're more prone to contract HIV?

Like the other guys who think the infection rate is much higher, you don't post any references or links.

I've been able to provide links because they're easy to find - it's the consensus position of the scientific community. And if those stats are wrong, the doctors, researchers and epidemiologists who are the sources of those figures are also mistaken. However, if there is some huge debate going on among AIDS experts - one group saying that the infection rate is as high as the 25 to 60% mentioned by others in this thread - I'm not aware of it.

So if you disagree with those references I've posted, let's have your links. Otherwise, what am I arguing against?

In any case, you seem to be referring to the large number of HIV-positive people in sub-Saharan Africa. No one seems to understand exactly why the infection rate is so high in that part of the world, but the high incidence of complicating medical problems is thought to play a large part; schistosomiasis, for instance, which affects up to 50% of women in parts of Africa, damages the lining of the vagina making women much more susceptible to HIV infection.

Certainly the MUCH lower percentages of non-Africans who are HIV-positive points to some peculiarity specific to sub-Saharan Africa causing those high infection rates. Then there is the fact that the HIV epidemic started in non-African populations via intervenous drug use and gay anal sex. If HIV spreads so easily via heterosexual sex, why should that have been the case? Even now, intervenous drug users and gay men account for a much higher percentage of new infections than would be the case if the virus was passed easily via straight sex.

Marsupial,

Without wishing to derogate from anything which you have posted under this thread, and in fact I would commend you for the thoroughness of your reporting, I must ask if you have ever visited sub-Saharan African countries, specifically southern African countries?

The bottom line is nearly all STDs nowdays are curable.  The big ones you watch out for are HIV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C.  HIV and Hepatitis B are chronic, especially when the virus become dormant.  They can flare up any time during their lifespan.  Even though they are curable, the side effects associated with the medications are sometimes intolerable.  HIV/AIDS cocktail consists of two nucleoside analogs with a protease inhibitor.  They can literally make you sick to your stomach.  Nevertheless, people who are HIV positive can live to their 90s.

Here are a few more references to official sources that would be useful for everyone to read so that they are fully informed.

http://www.acog.org/publications/patient_education/bp009.cfm

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health ... nt&DSECTION=all

http://wonder.cdc.gov/std-v2008-race-age.html .

The Center for disease Control link allows one to select the specific disease and see the incidence rate.

Based on these I suggest everyone be careful.

There are 3 degrees of lies:
1. Lies
2. Fucking lies
3. Statistics

With that said, the links from post # 1 seemed kinda dodgy on the sound of that Doctor.
Anyways, some say 60 % some say one-in-a-million.

Contracting HIV by a male from female is extremely rare.  However, for someone who got it from sex is either 0 percent or 100 percent.  Those are the odds you have to play around with.  Unless you have a break in your penile skin, the rate of contracting HIV from a female partner is <0.1 percent.  Also, it depends on the female partner's viral load.

What percentage of guys have barebacked a WG?  When I talked among my friends, all of us had ended up getting drunk and slipping up with a regular.  I'venever gotten anything, but my friend has gotten stuff 4 times in China.  Always KTV girls. Nothing serious.  Thoughts?

It's all moot, just wear a hat.
Even getting a 'minor' STD would make you feel like a Jackass, because it's so easily avoidable before the fact. Like drink driving to avoid a $10 cab fare and writing off your car.

I personally do not consider  HIV as an STD, the name STD should be reserved to diseases really related to sex, and HIV is not.
For heteros, I think the first cause of contamination unhigienic use of intravenous drugs.
We can add any common use of ustensils that come to contact with blood, your hairdresser's tools, a shared tooth brush, contact sports, tattoos,....
That's why when you see the statistics of transmission by heterosexual or homosexual intercourse, it does not explain how the virus spreads so fast. Yet when you stop naming it STD and explain all other transmission factors, you understand why millions are infected, and why it's particularly spread amongst poor and marginalized population.

So I'm calling for fellow mongerers here to spread the word, either stop calling HIV an STD, or start calling FLU likewise.

I second that, Herpes is by far the worst. And most recent researches points to Herpes fo enhancing the risk to get other STDs or HIV.

i look at it this way:
if someone said to me for $100 dollars i had a 1 in 1000 chance to be rich for the rest of my life i would think that was great odds and what a deal, i would be thinking i have a greart chance of winning this and what a great prize

but use those stats with aids: a guy says to me for the sake of a few min of pleasure you have a 1 in 1000 chance of ending your life early, never being able to kiss your kids, exposing all the people you love and know to aids and most of all dieing a horrible death, i would have to pass, but the stats guy says its only a 1 in 1000 chance you will get it what about how god it feels??? pros and cons list the pro lasts a couple of min the cons list could fill a book

wg are not where you want to go bare backing
