With certain networks in the UK you only have to buy a HK sim card and it will work but some are blocked.

I am not bothered about the iPhone5 - I only got the 4 in May.

I think Iphone 5 could be released on its regular time next July, but its all speculation until it actually arrives. Who really can know

Guys, how much are the going rates for iPhone 4S 16/32/64GB in Hong Kong and China?

I heard it's 7000 HKD for the 16GB 4S or some friends have said? Anyone know how much of a premium they're gonna be for the first 2 weeks of the iPhone 4S?

Last Sept i went to Sham Sui poh and the cheapest ip4 16gb was priced at 4.4k HK$ being sold by a store there.
At Tsim sha Tsui , every store has the same price at 4.8k HK$ (16gb).
At Mongkok it was 4.6k HK$.

Anyone who knows how much they are today in HK?
I may get one by Dec should prices of ip4 16gb drop to 4k HK$ or below.

I'm not amazed by the ip4s, the software SIRI, i doubt we can use that at its full potential and the unit is basically of the same chasis as the ip4 only that its now has a dual core processor for gaming plus the 8 megapixel cam.

I wondered where the lady is from? Is that illegal to bring Iphones into China? I find that strange, after all, the iphone 4S is made in China and being sold in China. What if I go to China and have one or two Iphones with me, is that smuggling? Will I not permitted to enter China?

iP4s at&t unit sells at 36k pesos here, and those factory unlocked units are being sold at 54k pesos in the Phil.

Slight drop (~200HKD) from what the newspaper reported on the actual release date and when the 4S arrived in HK.

Any foreign made electronics brought into China are taxed.  Electronics are things like foreign computer, cell phones, foreign cars, and foreign TV that are in China are already taxed and the taxes is extremely heavy. That is why electronic items are so expensive compared to the USA and Hong Kong.  The Chinese gov't wants their own people to buy Chinese made goods. The lady was trying to smuggle in the phones without paying the taxes.

Who among you guys already has an iP4s? Does SIRI understand the Chinese or Cantonese language or strictly straight and perfect English?

Kinda stupid to carry so many iPhone 4S's over customs...I sent 50+ iPhone 4S's back on launch day and just sold it @ HK, originally I wanted to sell it in China to get RMB cause I need a shitload of RMB for my business in China anyways but figured it wasn't worth the hassle to get it seized or even stolen in China or at China customs.

Btw I have a 4S but although SIRI is a nice feature to have, it just doesn't work as well as SIRI in the United States. I'll probably just give it to the SO and keep my iPhone 4.

I've bought my unlocked iPhone from in the States and it works fine with local sims.  Way more expensive to buy it unlocked (4 was $700 six months ago).  

There's a little bit of fine print people should be aware of IF they buy in the U.S. and they buy with a plan.  Most of the time, after your plan runs its 2 year course, you can get the phone unlocked (this is handy even if you've upgraded, because you sometimes need a third phone when you travel).  However, sometimes ATT will designate some models as "never unlockable."   That doesn't mean that you can't jailbreak them, but in the past I've gotten phones unlocked at ATT and then sometimes they wouldn't (particularly for high end Blackberries).

Jailbreaking an iPhone can be a little more touchy because when it comes time to upgrade the software, sometimes a jailbroken iPhone won't upgrade.

And Siri works in English, French, and a couple of other European languages.
