I think of Xiao Xiao and I think about the "nature" of Chinese women folk.

How many of them sacrifice themselves working as WG's just to send money home to parents - who in many cases uses the money to send their son to school, for him to get married, to build a house etc.
They don't even think about what their daughter needs to do to be able to send the $$

Then after they themsleves get married, how many gets turfed back by their own useless husbands back to the hoorhouses.  And if the husband does make even a bit of $$, how they then treat their womenfolk practically like crap - whilst they go out and screw around.

They fare no better in the job market - most times only used as "production fodder" and only assigned the lowest menial jobs.

I can go on and on - but I think you all know about the sorry lot of the Chinese ladies!

Can you imagine how an American or other Western country women folks would react if having to exist under the same set of circumstances?!

And as for Xiao Xiao - her true, totally unselfish and all encompassing love (especially since its for a totally ungrateful, undeserved bum) really gets to me as a concurrent symbol of both human strength and frailty. I really salute her.

I would truly be honored if ANYBODY could have such feelings for me. Sigh....!

Its the age old, "nan ren bu huai, nu ren bu ai" ("women love bad boys") theory. But then again, this seems to be the culture in many small towns. Parents gambling, nobody working or contributing to the bottom line, so someone has to go out and support the family. Such problems are deep seated because the culture has seeped in for generations.

EDIT: I should correct myself and say "women are attracted to bad boys". But then again, if a good boy has his attractive pts, they'd be attracted too. Not many attractive good boys around, they always say.

Interesting thought because from what I read here and in other forums many of the western guys feel that the women in their countries have swung all the way to the totally opposite viewpoint whereby the western based women are totally suspicious, do not trust, nor supportive of their men. It is this behavior that drives many of these guys to Asia or overseas to seek a more balanced woman.

Freepeaks - Try this ploy I very often use on slower days i.e. Monday-Thursday; I make "deals" with a mommy (which must be re-cfmd OK by the actual gal) to NOT pay the usual 200 or 500, but to pay RMB 300 instead. Oh god, what great fun I've had in CP bbs the days leading to Chinese New year.
