I thought of this thread when I was in the pizza shop today. There was a couple in line in front of me, a girl and a guy, speaking Cantonese so probably locals. Both looked about 19 or 20. The girl was pretty good looking, nice face, short hair, and she had the bare midriff going, my views on which are a matter of public record.      The guy had a lumpy face, bad skin, orange hair that kind of stuck up in the air ... Rebel without a cause, probably, but unprosperous pimp was the first impression that came into my mind. I was offended that she was not there with a 40 year old guy in a business suit!

When I see a young babe hooked on to a young, broke, dork I scratch my head.  As they age -- he becomes more attractive in the eyes of the opposite sex, while she becomes less attractive.

By 35-40 he is just entering his peak years  (high earner, high status, and all the material trappings that go along with that) while she is just an ageing housewife, past her prime already and (usually) showing it.  He either cheats like mad with younger gals or dumps her completely for a younger gal.

Hence then almost-universal trend of older-guy+younger-gal relationships.

As a really old guy, let me comment just a bit.  You are never to old for pussy, and if an old guy can get a sweet young thing to be with him in any way, more power to him!  My current Chinese GF is 30 years old and I am well over twice her age.  Yes, she is a working girl and I sometimes give her money, but not always.  Such is the cost of the relationship!  She will bring a friend if she is "red" or even if I just feel like a change or 3P.  I am not naive enough to believe that she would provide the same GFE if she didn't get paid!  But then, she has got to live and she is in the business to make money, and I don't expect to get her for free, I hope you have heard the expression, "pay me now or pay me later"!  It still amounts to the same thing!

I don't tend to group 'young girls' with wanting stability and wealth in older guys, a lot of it is related to level of education, their current personal economic situation and their economic situation when they were growing up. For example I wouldn't think a young Marissa Mayer

Generally speaking, people gravitate within 1 standard deviation of their own intelligence and find it difficult to get on with people outside of that regardless of age.

Other major factors are energy and stage in life experience. For example, some older guys/women have gone through the parting hard stage and just can't be bothered with it anymore, whereas some of the younger people are constantly out getting lashed, partying hard. This is an imbalance of social lives, hence why people gravitate to people with common social habits and why common social habits usually are at the same stage of life so are usually similar in age.

Older guys and younger girls.. if intelligence and stage of life is similar, there's no reason why it matters at all (in terms of relationships). Outside of that, it's usually an economic transaction.

So true People self select on many different categories, not just intelligence but also looks, height, social class, education, everything else. this is how it works in the real world. Of course you can just walk around Wanchai on a Saturday afternoon Watching these old fat Britz with sweet young things hanging around their necks. They aren't there because of the guy’s charm

Don't really have any insights to add, just another data point.

In the lobby of a first-tier HK hotel last night, a young Chinese girl, perhaps a fresh graduate from overseas,
was in conversation with an older guy in a suit. They were sitting at 90 degrees to each other and the man
had his back to me. She was speaking animatedly to him in barely accented English, and I didn't pay much
attention at first, until he reached over and took one of her hands in both of his and hung on to it. She kept

This went on for several minutes. As I got up to go, I saw that he was East Asian, probably Chinese, and
well into his 70s. He was speaking to her earnestly in an Asian language, probably Chinese. May have been
her grandfather, I guess. But if not, it wasn't so much April-September as March-December!

My reaction? It seemed odd, like seeing a talking dog. But after having given it some thought, I say why not?
