Actually, you're right. S3 battery life is shorter than S2.

S2 comes with a 1700 mhz battery, you can go out and buy a 1900.
S3 comes with a 1800 mhz battery, again, can buy a 1900 one.

Also, this video did an experiment on a comparison between S2 and S3 battery: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtBb_0eYB5s

I personally just don't care about battery life since I always have an extra battery in my bag (or even pants).

That quad processor would probably only come in use when playing powerful games. Most apps don't even use 3 quads.

"the method to turn off data plan was insane":

(1) From the home screen press settings.
(2) From settings press General.
(3) From here you can turn Cellular data ON, OFF, Enable or Disable 3G, 4G (on iPhone 5), or even... and this is a Brilliant feature... Turn off your data plan when roaming all together. That means if you travel regularly and dont want the hassle of pressing the 3 buttons I mention above each trip, turn data roaming OFF once and that's it... FOREVER!

(Apple has a) "closed app market, it forcing you to use itunes which is a hassle for those who enjoy pirating".

You get what you pay for. There are almost 800,000 Apps on iTunes, many of which are free. If you cant find what you want... you're not looking... On the other hand, if you enjoy pirating... obviously the fact the iTunes store makes it difficult to steal is a problem. Consumers who justify stealing from Apple because they are a "big corporation"should consider that Apple get 30% of the sale price... the developer gets 70%. Morally, it's really no different to walking into a retail shop and stealing something.

Android forces me to use a big-SIM card (i travel to China a lot so I need to switch sim-cards)... either way you need to change SIM cards and I simply buy a pre paid card the size I need... both sizes are readily available. The problem doesn't really exist.

I agree the Samsung products are very good and the S3 is excellent. In terms of "doing more with a smart phone"... I don't know anything meaningful you can do with an Android you cant do with an iPhone. Both have Apps for just about everything these days. I'm saying that trying to avoid the circular debate of Android owners who "think" they know all there is to know about iPhones and iPhone owners who think the same about Android.

1) I was comparing iphone 4s with s2, which is subtly mentioned when i noted i had purchased an iphone 4s for my mother, and me owning an s2 myself. which, is indeed much heavier than the s2.

2) on s2, it's 1 button, on/off. on the iphone 4s, i had to go through at least 3 screens to turn it off. can't confirm what you're saying right now, i may be wrong. all i know is that it's 3x more difficult to turn off when comparing to a 1 button click on android (hold right side button, turn on/off data plan)

3) fair enough, but it used to be a reason why i refused an iphone 4s. too late for me to consider an iphone anymore, because most customers who are satisfied with a product tends to stay loyal. apple had the chance to hook me, but couldn't. To those who are "buying their first smartphone", this fix/change is welcome.

4) there may be 800k apps on itunes, but you can't install the 141 ECE app on your iphone. how's that for an argument? you'd have to jailbreak your iphone to install it, while on an android, you can simply download the 141 ECE .apk and install it (without the need to root it, risk of bricking, which i actually bricked my s1). I don't see how you can argue the apple closed market app is better than android's, besides less virus infected apps

4.b) your premise of piracy is "stealing/theft". that, alone, is a different debate.
theft is the removal of an object from its existing place. piracy is copying the existing object, to create duplicates. so techniaclly, it is very different and i doubt people on this board has a moral sense when every member here would see a WG behind their SO's back

5) this problem doesn't exist if you "start right now", but i have used the same prepaid CHINA normal-sim card for many years, and i pop that into my s2 when i travel to china. since you're saying there are micro-prepaid cards available easily now, that is indeed an alternative, but does that mean I have to forsake my many years old of normal-size-sim card, and buy a new prepaid mini-sim if i were to use an iphone today? many of my contacts would be unable to reach me without me telling them in advance, and some old clients/relatives refuses to read SMS because they're technologically retarded, so yes its a hassle to call everyone and tell them i bought a new sim.

6) PC troubleshoot issues include: forcing me to install itunes, which i swear to god, is the most annoying piece of software i had ever come across. wants to associate it with all my music, wants to update every week, wants to use me in an experimental apple product, wants me to sync my iphone 4s (i had one) with it. actually i used to own a Shuffle, and my god all the music that was synced onto it, were deleted when i reformatted my PC. I couldn't take out songs individually. so yes i am biased towards itunes because i have had nightmares dealing with it, and requiring me to go through that trauma once again, was just too much. i told mother to sell it and i'll gladly teach her to use android. which yes, worked out.

It's prestige and classy holding an iPhone becoz of the premium materials used on it , its retina display is unmatched but somehow i still feel the Samsung Galaxy Phones are more flexible in terms of usage like extended memory card slots, nfc for easy quick transfer of files, extra spare battery and larger display.
I hope someday Samsung can use more premium materials on their phone aside from plastic and polycarbonate.

Interesting read. I've also seen it spun the other way. None of us really know the answer. For a long time Android phones simply played "catch up". After all, look at what phones looked like BEFORE iPhone and look at what phones look like now... iPhone changed the world of mobile technology. There is no doubt the gap has closed. In so far as who's in front? it has been hard to tell...

However...

Finally (at least for the moment) there has been a clear difference in terms of direction from the "big 2". As I mentioned in an earlier post, over the next 12 months we will get to see who read the consumer better. Both Apple & Samsung have convincing arguments. It will be a very interesting period for mobile technology.

I've used 3 Samsung phones. a Nexus, a S2 and a S3. Frankly they give me the shits. I find them illogical and awkward to use, navigate, and perform real world tasks on. BUT... I admit that is primarily because I am a long time Apple user who is much more familiar with the Apple OS and interface. It just "makes sense" to me. Now There are Apple people who are totally anti Android because they don't really understand it and there are Android users who feel the same about Apple based on the same lack of knowledge. I have to say... I find both arguments quite lame...

No need to justify your comments. Just accept that iPhone 5 is not as heavy as S2 or S3. "iPhones are NOT heavier than Samsungs..." The old iPhone is heavier than the 2 newer Samsung phones. The new iPhone is lighter. Fact.

For such an important function, I would definitely not feel comfortable with a "1 button click solution" because that means 1 click data off = 1 click data on. If you are right about this Samsung feature I think it is poorly thought through and another reason why I am more comfortable with Apple's OS. If you are wrong... well then you're wrong LOL. Either way turning data off on an iPhone is EASY and the "always off when roaming" feature is excellent.

Both Apple & Android make improvements to their OS from model to model. Android phones aren't perfect.

How's that for an argument? it's pathetic. This is not an Apple issue. it is a developer issue. There are plenty of Apps available on iPhone but not Android. You isolate one as the basis for your argument? LOL. You're either joking or stupid. So I'm sure you're joking.

I repeat... Bottom line I have as many Apps to choose from as you... in fact a few more. You correctly identify the anti virus advantage I enjoy as important. I rate this feature highly.

Please don't try and use semantics to come across as"clever". When you download a pirate copy of something that you should have paid for you are taking the developers Intellectual Property without paying for it. It is illegal. Call it whatever you want but it's wrong. Seriously... don't embarrass yourself any further on this. Don't get me wrong, I personally don't care what you do or don't... but saying one of your reasons you prefer Android over Apple is because it's easier to steal using Android may be a reality but it's not a good reason.

In terms of you suggesting that all users of this forum are immoral degenerates when it comes to internet theft just because we visit WGs... I disagree.

All the options you refer to can easily be turned off... if you were as familiar with the Apple OS as you seem to be with Android.

As I said in an earlier post, the Apple vs Android circular debate is LAME. It depends on what the user is most familiar with. Every argument you can come up with I have a counter argument and no doubt vica versa. So called "independent" reviews rate both the S3 and the iPhone 5 highly. There are sound arguments on both sides regarding screen size and phone size. Leave it at that... or if you can't, try and stick to facts.

All i'm going to say is, piracy is not STEALING. You're going to have to redefine the word in the dictionary, if you were to call piracy is stealing. Here, read this link, MPAA doesn't maintain their stance anymore about piracy=stealing. But you're probably way too brainwashed by Apple to absorb anything anymore.

http://torrentfreak.com/mpaa-pir ... t-after-all-120520/

So to me, you lost all your credibility because it's so damn retarded to call piracy as theft. I would download a fucking car if I could.

Do you think apple would allow an app like ECE 141 on their itunes store? Answer that question yourself, and you'll see why there isn't one for iphone, unless you jailbreak it.  it's not the dev's choice, they dont HAVE a choice, unlike with android

QUOTE:

QUOTE:
I've used 3 Samsung phones. a Nexus, a S2 and a S3.

So you owned 2 Samsung phones (Nexus is made by Google, not Samsung) and you still don't know how to turn off data plan like the method I described. No wonder you went back to iPhone. Android is designed for people who wants power over their phones, but obviously you're the type who wouldn't know how to root an android nor jailbreak anything, and because of that, i'm assuming you're anti-pirate because you DON'T know how to pirate.

If you are indeed the type of person who are against piracy because you "don't pirate", that just means you're the same type of human who wants to ban cigarettes, because you don't smoke.

And the 1 click button to turn off data isn't as simplified and insecure as you made it sound. You have to unlock the phone, hold the right button, then turn on/off, where as on apple, you have to navigate to the settings, which is tedious and a hassle, as i've experienced it myself. In your case, you haven't seemed to experience it otherwise you wouldn't be wrong about it.

Sim card thing, each to their own belief. to me and many, the problem persists because we don't simply replace an old item when it's functioning well with a compatible phone. if we have to buy a new sim card, JUST to use an iphone, then many would stay oldschool, and avoid "change".

About the weight thing, nothing to argue, you're right about that.

You don't like iTunes? you realise you can have songs, movies, games etc on iTunes that you didn't buy from the App Store? You understand that right?

dude... re stealing... you want me to read a website called "torrent freak" for reliable unbiased commentary about downloading things without paying for it??? LOL. naive...

IT IS AGAINST THE LAW. You refer to smoking... smoking is NOT against the law. Downloading a car through the internet is NOT possible. When you download someone's IP without their permission and without paying for it you ARE stealing their IP. It is illegal. I couldn't care less that you do it... Similarly your assumption I don't understand how you do it is also wrong. In fact your assumption you cant do it within iTunes is WRONG as well. You can... You just don't know what you don't know...

I just think it's a hilarious that one's primary reason for choosing "A" instead of "B" is because "B makes it harder for you to steal.

Your circular illogical rhetoric makes me think you should work for a phone company though, or insurance? LOL.

Bottom line though... call it stealing, call it piracy, call it whatever you want... It is against the law. sugar coat it any way you want but don't talk shit.

Regarding the on/off data switch... your comment was "it's insanely complicated on an iPhone". You are wrong. It's not. In fact iPhone as an easy solution for regular travellers that it seems your Android doesn't have.

Re the Samsung Nexus... you say it's not a Samsung phone. I say it is. Do a search and see if I'm right. Then get back to me LOL.

I did NOT say I owned 3 Samsung phones. I said I used 3. My SO has had them in the past. They give me the shits. She was forever asking me to do things on them. I don't like them. But I explained why. I am not familiar with the Android OS and I am much more comfortable with Apple's OS. That's all.

re the SIM card... you do realise you can get a large SIM card trimmed and a small SIM card put in an adapter don't you? It's no big deal, fast and easy... probably quicker than downloading a Bit Torrent on the PC I'm sure you use LOL.

HAHAH. Please. QUOTE ME A HONG KONG LAW, THAT STATES PIRACY IS ILLEGAL, LOL. Let me give you a hint: YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO. Best you'll find is physical counterfeit items being illegal (fake DVDs, games, etc). Good lucking finding an anti-piracy statute within the copyright bill of amendment! Actually since I did an article on this topic a few months ago, here's the answer: http://www.thestandard.com.hk/ne ... &d_str=20120627
AKA: PIRACY LEGAL IN HK UNTIL LEGCO SORTS THEIR SHIT. Even if you open your laptop, open uTorrent, download Mission Impossible in front of a police officer AT a police station, he won't do shit!

Re iTunes: Why the hell would I want to use a huge ass software to play music, when I like winamp (super small fast player)? Why would i use itunes when it can't play half the codecs out there? Clearly everyone uses VLC or CCCP's codec pack with MPC player, because if you don't use those, then you know NOTHING about software and video codecs, which means you are clueless about hi10, DVD/blueray, MKV, Real Media, etc when you can play all those on 1 single player. Which I do, and which iTunes cannot do.
Why would I , games, what? itunes have games? Not even going to go into there.

Re Nexus: Again, you're stupid. Google OWNS the Nexus line. Google Nexus is a line of mobile devices using the Android operating system produced by Google in conjunction with an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partner.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Nexus
http://androidforums.com/nexus-s ... samsung-google.html
Samsung SERVES as the OEM, manufactures it, same when LG served as its OEM, but changed cos Samsung probably won the tender to manufacture it? Who knows, corporate decisions.. but oh boy, it's owned by Google, that's for sure, you don't want to mistake that! . You'd embarrass yourself if you walked into a social gathering and told people your views smartphones!

re: on/off data. Compared to iphone, android's on/off is as easy as, i don't know, unlocking your phone to home screen? to me, it's like comparing a touchpad with a mouse. Insane. Oh, I thought of saving this but its apparent you dont know: iphone jailbreakers installs a shortcut to turn on/off the data plan because they all know its a pain to do it manually.

Re: torrentfreak link: MPAA’s Chris Dodd Admits That Calling Piracy “Theft” Is A Bad Idea

3) http://techspy.com/news/1001022/ ... not-theft#c-6534442
You do know what the MPAA is, don't you? All those ads saying "You won't download a car?" Yeah, THEIR idea. And now THEY'RE regretting it. Yet YOU'RE pushing it. LOL!

re: Downloading a car impossible: Guess what? The MPAA made that advertisement as an effort to fight piracy! THEY wrote the damn ad, obviously its not possible but it shows how SHIT and WEAK their argument that piracy=theft is!

Good job HAH. Piracy is not illegal. Not in Hong Kong. I don't give a crap about the US because they make everything illegal just to protect their big ass corporations (think: Stevia: wiki doesn't do justify about the bullshit extent the US went to protect their sugar companies) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stevia )

Re piracy... I dont agree with you at all. In fact I think it would be difficult for you to be more wrong.

Shame that what started off as quite an intelligent and civil conversation had to turn this way. I regret I have to say this but you're "acting" like a wanker. And what makes it worse, a RUDE wanker. And even worse than that... a RUDE wanker who thinks he knows everything AND has a chip on his shoulder.

"walk into a social gathering and start talking about my views on mobile phones LOL"... you're not one of those party guests from hell that people try to avoid getting stuck talking to? kidding, I'm sure you're an interesting guy...

Apologies for being blunt.

Anyway, I said I have used 3 Samsung phones. I don't care if it's Google or Samsung or Google made by Samsung. This is the phone BTW...

Re iTunes. I didn't say that's all I use. I didn't say I don't "understand" other systems. It is possible to source content from anywhere you want and organise it in iTunes if you choose. Don't argue whether it's the best way to organise content or not... either use it or use something else that suits you... we don't give a shit. As long as your happy with how you organise your content that's great. Trying to ram your views down other people's throats is a pain in the ass dude. Your way is NOT the ONLY way!

Please don't pretend you know the nuances of systems you are not familiar with. If you RE READ what I have said on the subject you will find very clearly that I am careful not to do that. No need to nit pick or pin prick micro crap dude... you are OBVIOUSLY not totally familiar with Apple just as I am not totally familiar with Android.

Re piracy... I dont agree with you at all. In fact I think it would be difficult for you to be more wrong.

Shame that what started off as quite an intelligent and civil conversation had to turn this  ...

Why should I reread what you write, when more than half of what you write is incorrect?

The Galaxy Nexus (GT-I9250) is a touchscreen Android smartphone developed by a partnership between Google and Samsung. The phone and operating system were developed collaboratively by engineers from both companies.[12] It is the third generation successor to Google's previous flagship phones: the Nexus One and Nexus S. The Galaxy Nexus has a high-definition (1280 × 720) Super AMOLED display with curved glass, an improved camera, and Android version 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which debuted on the device.[13][14] The name is the result of co-branding between the Samsung Galaxy and Google Nexus brands of Android smartphones. The device is known as the Galaxy X in Brazil, however, due to a trademark on the "Nexus" brand.[15]

You ignore completely what I write. I told you, Nexus is owned by Google, and you continue to defend yourself without spending half a second on Google, to check WHO owns your phone. So what if it is called Samsung Galaxy Nexus? It's bloody OWNED by Google, but you refuse to spend ONE second on google to clarify that!

So which is why, I won't read the other crap you write because like more than half of what you write, is incorrect, mislead pseudo knowledge.

It's funny how you think you can outsource different codecs to combine them in order to get iTunes to play "all other codecs". HAH. As if APPLE would let anyone alter THEIR products! LOL

Thanks for the history lesson... BUT... again with the semantics... Samsung Galaxy Nexus Google Android phone... Like arguing with a kid.

DUDE... I dont care who's phone it is... Samsung, Google, or Louis Vuitton. I really don't care if it's a partnership with someone on Mars...That's not the point. I said I used 3 Samsung phones. Obviously they are Android. I don't like them and find them impractical and illogical. I admit that to a large extent is probably because I am more familiar and more comfortable with iPhone OS. What's the big deal??? I agree that the S3 is a very good phone. it must be. Reviews are usually very good. The fact I'm not familiar with it and so don't particularly like it doesn't stop it from being a good product... that alone points out one of the key differences between you and I...

you are that guy at the party to keep away from aren't you... LOL.

Ok guys, I haven't read everything but I feel this is getting out of hand. Please everyone just chill a bit.
For the record, I support Android and love the Samsung line of products.

But clearly there is no point in someone who supports Android and someone who supports Apple or PC vs. Mac for that matter in discussing what is better, because most of the time there will be no concession on anything.

Secondly, piracy in HK is illegal. (Doesn't matter if you call it theft or not...)
HKSAR vs Chan Nai-ming taken all the way to the Court of Final Appeal is the first criminal case in the world against a bit-torrent user. His 3 month jail sentence was upheld.
He was targeted for distribution of copyright works.
Several things to take from this.
So right now the emphases is to target the source rather than the end user.
But we see from the US where it started with targeting just the source, the uploaders, the new target with all the civil cases, have moved on to the downloaders as well.
In a current grey area in HK, any bit-torrent users can still be classified as distributors just by seeding the torrent.
You don't need a statute saying something outright to make law.
Much of the law is case law and created by test cases.
If they are ready to go after downloaders in HK too, I don't see it too hard to create a test case using Copyright Ordinace Section 118(1)(f) as the start.
I'm not sure criminal is the way to go though. Most other countries have only gone with civil suits.

But clearly there ...

First, he wrote it in a way "I've used 3 Samsung phones, so my opinions are neutral" tried to convince us that he has a right to say from both ends (apple and android). I won't say anymore.

Second, it's nice to see you avoiding the apple app vs android app topic. 800k apps and you can find ANYTHING you want if you look for it. Arent' you going to counter argue about how the developers CHOSE not to create a ece 141 app? no come back eh? i took the dignity of admitting that you were right about the battery issue, but you? Nah, wanker. won't even admit how wrong you are.

Second, about piracy being illegal in HK. It's illegal to distribute, but it's as you said, a grey area to download and no one will prosecute you for downloading. Why? There are NO statutory law about this. What this means, is that EACH piracy case, has to be looked on at a case-by-case.

also, this was no longer a civil discussion when you threw the word stupid around, when you, were in fact, the one who is stupid to think itune app store's closed app market is fine when compared to androids app market.

QUOTE:
There are no laws that allow anyone to pull information from suspected individuals from Bit Torrent users + Foxy + other software based on “IP infringement”. All requests are looked at a case-by-case scenario. Thus you will most likely not get prosecuted for online piracy unless the HK MPIA is ready to spend HK$1million in legal fees and months of legal battle. In average they win $250k out of $1mill back including a lot of begging and suicide threats from the person being sued. Unlike the America RIAA/MPIA, the HK MPIA cannot afford to sue individuals in the long run and haven’t sued anyone since 2008 after heavy losses from legal fees.

So to sum it up, you will need to spend up to a million in legal fees to sue anyone in HK because there are no statutory laws about piracy. Only several cases of this happened in 2008 and since then, no one has bothered to sue anyone anymore because it's not worth it. They are all waiting for LegCo to pass the amended Copyright Amendment bill which won't happen for another 2 years at least, because all those members were re-elected because of CY, and the Peoples Demo Party will protest (they have their own hidden agenda, and actually filibustered legco in 2012 right when they were going to pass this bill, with 1700 proposals, which the chairman of legco cut in half, but the filibuster suceedeed in stopping the antipiracy bill)  it and the ISPs are also against it since they do not want extra work to "police" their users for IP infringement (piracy).

From experience, nothing productive really comes out of Android vs. Apple. Just a whole bunch of arguing.

=======
But just by saying that distribution is illegal, already shows the position of piracy in HK.
If you take away the source, then everything else should follow. (Of course 3 cases in many years is not going to do much...)
But the statutory law needed to prosecute downloaders is there already.
Section 118(1)(f) should be sufficient wording at least for BT users.
It doesn't need to say word for word that it is illegal to download.
Whether they need to say it outright in writing in the future is up to them.
But, cases are created to interpret the statutes.
There should be enough already to prosecute successfully the first person if they need feel like it.
And if successful, it doesn't have to be as much of a case by case basis as there is precedent from then on.

But like I said, I don't think criminalizing piracy like they have done in HK is they way to go.
I think civil proceedings is still the way to go if they wish to take it further.

Also I do not believe that not doing anything about it, means that it is legal.

yes you're right that it's illegal, based on 118.

but there are no policing for piracy. no one in the government will "voluntarily" prosecute anyone for piracy. if you suspect someone downloading a film you made, there are no laws to support you in obtaining that persons computer to check. that is what the amended 2012 bill was trying to achieve, to allow complaints to FORCE an ISP to hand over a suspects IP address, and thus allowing the police to raid them. But so far, there are no laws no nothing that supports anyone in prosecuting a suspect, unless you spend millions and many months to fight a legal battle.

those legal battles, mind you, are not always successful. they may build up to a clearer understanding, but it's still legal fees WHICH, even if successfully prosecuted, the person cant repay back because he has no money!

I find both arguments quite lame...

give it up dude. read again what I really said... It will calm you down.
