consensus...

It's very helpful for extra Bros to chip in on this discussion. Seems the consensus is that neither China nor HK is inherently racist against (Western) foreigners, however in the Mainland there are 2 issues at play, an underlying anti Japanese sentiment (to at least "some extent") and an eagerness to accept generalisations.

I think the generalising and stereotyping part is true of every country...

Looking back at Bro Geoduck's post on post #9 he seems pretty accurate to what most people feel. Bro Kennichi's comment back at post #5 seems to not be supported by the majority which is a good thing!

Tensions are flaring up again since China is starting to hold back on some rare earth minerals, mostly going to Japan for electronics.  What shocked me was that China holds 97% of the world's rare earth minerals, that's fucking hold the world by its balls, no?

i heard that china stopped exporting the rare earth minerals to japan a few months ago, as their relations were out of place.. japan decided to sign contract for rare eath minerals with vietnam instead..
so i take it, vietnam owns some of the 3% of rare earth minerals?

The headline is wrong, it is 97% of the worlds capacity. When they mean rare earth it means you have to dig a fuck load of spoil to get those minerals. China clay for instance (Kalonite) you have to dig out about 3 tons for every ton you find. Rare earth minerals you have to dig out even more.

There are plenty of mines in the USA South America. They have merely been closed down because China has tempted the companies to move to China. Because labour is cheaper, taxes are lower and they don't have to give consideration towards pollution either. Which means those firms make killer profits.

When China says NO it means they have to reopen those mines which will cost them shitloads of money.

Life is short very...

HEEEEYYYY Tony!

Happy New Year!

And here's wishing you, the next time you're in China or Hong Kong, cocooned in your self-indulgent world of "no countries, nothing to kill or die for, no religion and all the people, living life in peace" (Huh? What's that bird I just heard?  Oh no, sorry, just the clock marking off time), that you.....

- Continue to believe that EVERYBODY - bar none -here really love you. Hey - you ARE the lovable Tony Toro after all.
- Next guy or gal who gives you a look or rolls his eyes - its just again because of your lovable nature and definitely not that you've created any faux pas;  no, you're too sensitive to everybody's sensibilities to ever even hint at any airs.  NOPE!

And make sure you wave at that guy who's shaking his head - that's probably either Kenichi or I!!

Now, you have yourself a good new year now!!

Muahahah!

Sounds right. Same thing with oil. Lots of oil in the US and Canada, but up until now it has not been worthwhile to drill it cos of cost/pollution issues. Once cheaper (easier to drill) supplies dry up elsewhere they'll start digging in their own backyards again.

Was there any purpose to that post besides winding Tony up?  I mean, I'm struggling to find humour or content, so what's your point?  No offence intended
