Yeah, if you grew up in a certain part of HK society its hard to imagine.

I know a few people in bad situations only due to extremis, ie. old schoolmates where their family lost it all on a business collapse, swindled, or massive medical bills due to one or both parents slowly dying.

Of course, I meet a lot of people like this playing poker as well.  You get the tycoons that are playing 3 million HKD buy ins, to the college kid who has all his savings on the table.  That's why I love poker.
