all the he say she say stuff  got to stop, if you are not sure about thr law don't any thing. When i was young, one of my teacher had us play this game. He show a note one student and the messege get pass around to other student. Every time the messege reach to the end is different that what is on the note. So for all the people who say they hear from someone and that someone hears it from someone else the points is lost and someone added something else to it. Law in china is up to the LE to enforce, And even if you are caught with a WG, It comes down to who you know and how deep is your pocket. Two of my buddy was caught not too long ago with WG. THe law stated that if you are caught with a WG you have to pay a fine and have your family come to bail you out. Well all my buddie did was give the LE a name and ask for a phone call. They end up pay 5000RMB each and was release right away with no action. For me when i punt i make sure that my phone has power so i can call for HELP.

If what you said is right, then a paying a fine is an acceptable risk.  Changing a passport or being banned from China is very troublesome esp if one has to go to China often for biz.  Can one imagine what to tell the boss (worse if she is female) if one is not allowed in China for the time being?

I am talking about locals here. Not sure about people with passport or such. I still can speak like a local which is a plus and with the right Name of a GOVERNMENT worker i can work some thing out with the LE. Is all about being local and who you know. I will hate to call the to bail me out for seeinf a WG. He will come a bail me out if i am in trouble but i will feel like shit after.

ok, if you do get caught and you're from out of town or overseas,  what is the penalty, a jail term or a hefty fine?   If its a fine many punters can probably live with and get away with, but a  jail term depens how long they keep you so bit difficult to get out of.
