Depends on what you call dating, I guess.
There's one girl I see most times I'm in Shanghai, and we go out to dinner, and have a drink and play pool and such, and then she comes back to the hotel and stays overnight with me - you'd call that dating, right? Except that, I met her through an escorts site, and afer each overnight I'd leave some cash in her handbag. So, that's paying for sex, right, not dating? Except that she doesn't explicitly ask for the money, never questions the amount (it varies, depending on how flush I'm feeling, from 800 to 1500 RMB), and had told me that she doesn't want me to consider that I pay for sex, just help out a friend.
Another girl, who I also met through an escort site, I have "dated", including taking her away for weekends, where we'd sight-see together, and share meals out - and wouldn't pay her after. Sounds like dating. But then, I'd been supporting her by sending her money through Western Union, to look after her sick mother (yeah, I know, you've heard that before, but I about 75% believe her). So, in a sense, when we'd go at it several times a night, I was just getting the services I'd paid for.
The boundaries aren't really clear...
