I seriously think that they log onto QQ and they got about 30-40 guys on their list. And they just write a sad story and that they are in need of money. Then they copy and paste onto 40 contacts. Seeing which sucker will take the bait.

I think they do this once in a while to test out their luck.

If in doubt, assume that they are lying. It's CP after all right?

I think you are probably right. There are just too much money involved in the trade to just kill it off. Someone must be coming up with some ideas on how to control and regulate the trade and make money our of it for the state?

Yes, but IMHO, its actually NOT the money that is the prime consideration. I think they KNOW that it's impossible to completely eradicate the world's Oldest profession - even in China!!  That being so, they may as well make the best of an intractable situation.

First, I really don't think that China would ever want to be known as another "sex destination" as many SE Asian cities/countries are. Whores yes - but, for the most part just to satisfy the locals plus a bit of accommodation for some of the foreign investors and even the casual visitor who just happens to get horny whilst in China on other things, like sightseeing or whatever.  Definitely NOT for sex to be the main reason for visitors to China.

And as lower priced mongering activities do bring out low-life/petty criminality - to just limit it to higher priced options to better control criminal activity - as higher priced venues do have its own resources to limit such.  

And  the happy coincidence is of course that major well run organizations do pay taxes, bring jobs to its surrounds and just make things nicer and classier all around...as befits Proud China!!

Under the Nationalist gov't, many place like Shanghai were filled with prostitutes. STD was everywhere but of course no AIDS yet. The Nationalist were extremely corrupt. After the communist took over in the 50's, they stamped out prostitution and drug addiction. STD slowly faded away in China. Penalties were extremely harsh under the commies.

Yes, all you say is supposedly true....at least as far as the PRC government at the time was concerned; but I've also heard that even during the bleakest days of the Communist rule, that prostitution in its own unique interpretation for that time still existed.  And of course everybody remembers the Great Helmsman's companions - right?

On top of that, you have to remember that people were actually starving to death during a lot of the Communist years. So most people's preoccupation at that time was just plain survival - who's got even the energy to monger then?

but i must mention that when i read these comments, i just think: Thailand, all over again.

it makes sense. in the 60s, Thailand benefitted from the USA airbases, and a scene sprung up due to US soldiers going on R&R. some went to HK and Singapore, but many chose BKK as flight time was shorter, leaving more precious minutes for intoxication and penetration.

Thailand was seen as a stable nation in an unstable region. the first industrial park (for Japanese companies) was established in 1971.

as a multinational, how would the PRC have struck you as an outsourcing destination in 1971? would you have pitched it to the board?

in the 70s, Thailand was sailing along, and started to take off in the 80s. 1987 was the first year they ran a tourism campaign. when i first visited a couple of years later, there was Patpong and Soi Cowboy...and Chaophya 2. i was always the young whelp in any bar, most patrons were in their 60s, a lot of Europeans. the girls were fresh, hot and obliging--it was a bit intimidating to me at that time...well, i was just a kid in many ways!

once i moved to Asia, i visited Thailand often (still do) and all the stuff u guys are describing (sponsors, gathering contacts for mass-mailings, marriage-with-intent) were occurring by the early 90s, before the Net, before mobile phones. once those technologies came in, it just skyrocketed. made it easier for savvy gals to juggle a number of true-loves. what was most feared was when Dieter from Dusseldorf and Bob from Boston were in town at the same time, but if u don't think a Thai WG can't manage that, keep it REAL when mongering in the Kingdom. they can and do.

the reasons for cash-infusions have gotten more sophisticated over the years--no more "the village water buffalo died, my family will starve." now they can juggle guys on Facebook, via email, and of course mobile phones. every guy who's spent enough time mongering in Thailand has had their tongue up some Thai gal's cooter while she talks on the phone: "yes darling is it cold in Switterland OOOOH no sorry, have cockroach run across room oooh-OOOOH no darling i just drink water cold too much, i miss you too much ohmiGAWD!" we're fuckin' 'em and reading their emails. in years past we'd be called upon to WRITE letters, even emails, but as emails can be filled with misspellings and sloppy grammar, it's seldom mentioned anymore. gals email on their phones. tech has made the whole business much easier.

it's happening now in China, but just as you get a good idea of Asia's next pop-culture trends by studying Japan's CURRENT pop-culture trends, so too can u see WGs in China mongering-scenes looking for bigger/better payoffs, just as has happened in Thailand. AsnDragon's descrip of the family that spends ALL the WG can earn without a thought for the future--yes, seen plenty of that. it's the kid-in-the-candy-store syndrome: "oh, the rich guy from far away just BOUGHT us a TV! and we threw a big party, got the entire village drunk, and he just paid for it all! next we want a pickup truck." it's like that. and some guys just keep paying--they balk, and little sweetie throws a fit, and they give in. for her family, there's never a thought of: the gal's got a limited shelf-life, let's be prudent. it's just yeehaw, funny money. it's documented everywhere on the Net--guys who always, ALWAYS say "yeah i know, but my gal is DIFFERENT." of course she is. until she's not.

true, as SEAJ mentioned, China does not want to be seen as a sex-destination. guess what: NEITHER DOES THAILAND. the tourist literature is full of spas/beaches/temples and officially, that's all that exists. while lower Sukhumvit has become a real swamp even in the dry season, around 2002 they opened a new complex near Soi 10. lots of businesses, but on the street were girlie-bars with employees handing out leaflets. a pal who'd lived there in '88, over a dinner-conversation, told me: "the conservative Sino-Thais who control this city will not stand for that--watch and see what happens." not long after, bulldozers guarded by soldiers swept in one morning at 5:00AM and crushed the entire block. i have pictures of the aftermath. nowadays, it's a large square-block garden. the red-light areas, tucked into a cul-de-sac or on a back-soi, continue to do trade.

Thailand now has 22 million visitors/year, the scuba-diving is degrading, places like Phuket's Patong Beach now look like some Waikiki tourist-trap as Filipino bands warble over iced-seafood displays and sunburnt blonde tourists gawk at transexxuals. everyone knows what's going on--check into any hotel in Thailand and bring a WG up to your room, they might ask for her ID card, but the worst thing that'll happen (at the snooty places) is they'll gouge you for a "joiner's fee." the gal might overcharge you and sneak some booze out of your minibar. of course it's a sex-destination, but try writing that if yr in-country on a journalist visa, ha ha ha. or contact the tourist board and ask them where the best soapy is. tell 'em yr bored with the temples.

the story of the PRD is cheap manufacturing, factory-towns built by HK/Taiwanese tycoons, and migrant-workers...including migrant sex-workers. it worked very well for awhile. now that living standards have risen, it's harder to find ppl willing to work 51 weeks a year and pack into trains at Guangzhou station...if they're running. the same multinationals who would never have built plants anywhere in China in the 70s are now building big ones in Sichuan/Hunan Provinces--keep the workers close to home and they're happier. of course the biz-climate will change.

and WG-tactics will change. it's inevitable.

I completely agree with you on the direction of PRC's Mongering industry. It will slowly become more like Taiwan and Japan, where it's even more hush hush than it is now. Where girls become so materialistic (not that they already aren't) and will end up having sex with men for name brand purses, cell phones and jewelry etc. I see this trend happening already. But what's so amazing is that China moves at lightning speed where changes that take place in other countries within 10 years, can take place in China in 3 years.

I guess the moral of the story is, enjoy it while it lasts! Be prepared to seek out new places to monger as mongering gets less fun the more developed the location becomes, but in a cultural and economic sense.

I see what you're thinking and the parallels you see now - but I really don't think that mongering as an Industry in China is going to evolve in the same direction as in LOS.

I really cannot see that the Powers-that-be here is EVER going to allow China to be known as a sex destination - officially, unofficially, acknowledged as, or even being hinted at as such. No way, not as xenophobic and full of Nationalistic Pride that just about all strata of Chinese society is.

Besides which - how much does the water trade - ESPECIALLY THE LOWER PRICED OPTIONS - bring in as tax, direct investments, employment etc? Like I said, The guys who runs the country KNOW that they're not going to be able to ever eradicate prostitution totally and that their own populace do need/will demand this - but they also know that the best way to handle such proclivities is to channel such enterprise towards the aims and the greater good of the country. i.e Upgrading, eliminating other criminality from encroaching...and TAXING them!!

And please do remember that even with all this talk about China being so entrepreneurial, it still remains a PLANNED ECONOMY; No way that they're gonna allow ANY of their Mr. Wong's or Chan's to run rampant and do whatever the Mr. Somthai's of Thailand gets up to!!!  

Nah....no WAY that China will ever become a sex destination - and in fact, I can ALREADY see the direction the water trade is headed towards with all that's been happening these days - cleansing of many parts i.e. zhuhai, Shatsui, Houjie, Guangzhou, the upgrading - and MASSIVE spending - of all such water trade activities/facilities, and just recently the strike hard campaign in Chang Ping - the place that's apparently been designated for such trade.

Now... on the "evolution" of the gals engaged in the trade - well...I can see where our nice, quite innocent, relatively less mercenary Chinese WG's would/could develop into some of the man-eating Piranhas that's endemic in Thailand, PI and other sex-destination countries.  But that's another topic altogether!!

Don't you guys also find it strange that within our ICT, we do look to each other as more than just fellow posters?  That time and again, we do seem to be closer, more caring to each other and seem to actually want good things for those we got to know through this thread?

And that we do seem to know each other a lot better/follow each other's posting more closely and thus able to put up a sort of mind-picture of our "buddy on the  ICT?"

Oh I know that this all is quite a nebulous/loosely formed opinion - but I do wish that some of these Mods/Seniors would have at least taken the trouble to actually experience the ICT before they make judgements - and worse - taken action AGAINST the ICT.

Yeah, I guess us ICT'ers CAN be considered a clique - but I'd think that we're a clique that do always go out of our way to invite more to join in - just to enjoy the banter AND the feeling of palpable camaraderie that I think is quite apparent for everyone to see...and feel!.

I'm wondering if those who refuses to be tempted to join the siren call of the ICT are just worried that they may be identified as joining a bunch of namby-pamby do-gooders .... on a board that is supposed to be populated with Testosterone fueled cocks-men?  

Or that perhaps if he joins in, that it cud be translated as having turned their backs against their own "clique?"  But I thought the only other clique of significance on our board has already been exposed/busted and banned?
