LOL!
I never said that that Chinese/Asian Economy 101 makes sense - at least not in the "classical sense!"
Yeah, all you say is rationally quite correct - but lets follow the steps of a LOCAL CHINESE walking into a Wanchai Velvet curtain Bar with a foreigner - and this foreigner will either be local or a visitor.
If the Foreigner is a local, he would usually be way more familiar with the way things work there versus the local Chinese - and will most likely not only take charge, but will be the person who the Mamasan would approach. Depending on how the Chinese acts, the bill will either be what Foreigners usually pay or...if the Chinese shows signs of wanting to have face, gonna be the payor, quite meek/not wanting to cause a ruckus etc - balloon up quite substantially.
Now, if the foreigner is a visitor - then FOR SURE the bill is gonna get inflated for all the reasons I've stated above. The bar operator KNOWS that both these guys will most likely never ever come back again (quite rightly) so what's to stop him from doing so?
Bad word of mouth? Hell...these places already have such amongst locals! The visitors?
Well....they're gonna come irregardless!!
Trust me, this hypothesis is correct! I've been in way too many of these bars in Hong Kong/all over Asia too many times
And specific to your question
What if...especially with entertainment or adult venues rely on costumer satisfaction? Let's say they see a customer go in. The customer enjoys himself. The customer has a smile when he is leaving. Would the establishment charge him a bit less anticipating repeat business?
Let's say a second scenario where the costumer goes in. The customer does not enjoy himself. The customer is clearly disappointed, full of complaints, or clearly won't be coming back. Would the establishment charge him a ripoff price thinking, what the hell? This would be consistent with SEAN's (1) and (2).
Asian/Chinese Economics 101 will result in precisely the opposite of what you're implying/thinking rationally!!
If the customer is all satisfied, Chinese/Asian operators will reason - heck I really offer a superior product, that no matter how much I charge, the guy loves my place so much he'll just HAVE TO come back. And on top of that, if I charge him too little, he'll be too embarrassed to bring his friends etc to such a low priced joint!
On the second scenario, an Asian operator is gonna be scared shitless that the unhappy guy is some big shot who'll come back and exact revenge etc. This is why we've got Local PRC guys screaming and shouting all over the place!! It's the POWER that counts in China!! LOL
SEAN - Asian/Chinese Economics 101. Yarrroo!
