Korea is well-known as the plastic surgery capital of Asia - unless you want to change your sex, in which case you go to Thailand. I remember reading that the Korean government is/was even building a huge medical resort somewhere to lure foreigners to Korea for plastic surgery. You've even got Asian Americans traveling to Korea for these procedures. And anyone who can afford to go to Japan for cosmetic surgery has got to be beaucoup rich.
But, I certainly don't claim that no Japanese woman has ever had plastic surgery. Obviously there are plastic surgeons in Japan, and they must practice on somebody. However, there's no way that anywhere near 1/2 of Japanese young women are having their eyes done, as seems to be the case in Korea. All I can say is that again, after 15 years in Japan and associating with a lot of "ordinary" Japanese women, never did I encounter anyone who had gone or expressed an interest in going under the knife to improve her looks. There might have been some who had secretly had their eyes done - tho I never met anyone with the unnatural eyes you see here and in the DB pics - but huge fake tits would not have escaped my attention.
The Koreans, on the other hand, are obsessed with plastic surgery and don't think twice about it. Parents are financing eye operations for their kids as graduation presents. Koreans have plastic surgery to improve their chances in job interviews. This is definitely not the case in Japan.
A Japanese would be embarrassed to admit seeing a plastic surgeon. (出る釘は打たれる - 'the nail that sticks up gets hammered down' is not just a stereotype when taking about the Japanese.) The differing attitudes towards plastic surgery is just another example of how temperamentally dissimilar the two peoples are - I would say as different as Germans and Italians.
