Actually not true.  I've been approached by several Chinese girls - mostly from Shanghai.

I find comparatively very few PRC girls in Wan Chai. I wont say never but compared to Fil, Indo, Thai and these days even Sudan, Columbian and Vietnamese... PRC girls in WC are rare. I have always felt the WC Bar scene relies much more on being able to speak good English and that is the main reason. Obviously local HK WGs dont go to WC for fear they will see someone they know.

These comments are generalisations of course and exceptions to every rule (I have found PRC WGs in bars) but I believe these issues influence the numbers of PRC WGs in WC bars.

OK, NOT my opinion, I am just repeating what I have been told by bar staff and owners multiple times. This is their perception...

(1) Chinese Bros in bars are usually tyre kickers.

(2) Indian / Pakistani Bros in bars upset the girls and start fights with other Bros.

- These 2 issues mean that when a WG enters a bar and finds it is full of Chinese Bros or Indian / Pakistani Bros they will go to another Bar.

- When a Gweilo enters a bar and finds no WGs he goes to another bar.

It's that simple.

Although wander said Caucasians do this as well occasionally, I have found that Indian/Pakistani customers are more likely to do it especially when they go together in groups.

Hmm I think these are "edge cases", Dart.  They are not the norm and don't really explain the norm.
...

I didn't say Asians don't get charged.  I accept they do, and - even lacking hard data - I accept they are charged more often that caucasians.

I said Caucasians do get charged, you can't deny that.  They get charged when the place is buzzing.

My observation is that if I stay away from Wanchai for a coupe of months, I start getting asked to pay.  And the more I stay away, and the busier Wanchai is the first time I go back, the more often I get asked to pay.
Conversely if I've shown up a few weeks, or maybe gone during the week before, spent some money, I get to walk in even at peak time on a Saturday night, when I (very occasionally) see a Caucasian tourist being asked to pay.

I'm not debating whether they're being racist, I accept they are.  I'm just sharing that they do seem to be more selective than simply race.

Well, we have yet to see anyone disagree with the story both TT and I have heard about why Asians get tagged at the door in Wanchai.  They dont spend or take out girls.

Hmmm.  Maybe all this makes sense --- Chinese men definitely prefer Chinese WGs  over SEAsian WGs (our own 141 poll strongly supports this statement).  And given the Wanchai bars are full of SEAsian gals I suppose they would either be disinterested or "low-ball" on price.  (perhaps expecting a 141 walkup price, which is much less than a typical wanchai bargirl price).  The gal feels insulted, the Bro feels ripped off...  everyone is upset...,

I dunno...

Still doesn't sit well.  You wouldn't have to ban Chinese people from going to a place they dont enjoy.  They just wouldn't go.., and the occasional one who did go wouldn't be a problem.

you seem to be viewing the issue as very black and white

They're not banned.
And we already have examples of Chinese who are not charged - "White Crows" in the discussion.

AND there is a solution.

We know what anyone can do to counter the prejudice: build up a personal reputation with the bar.
Go there when it's not busy, spend some cash.  Go there again, spend some more cash.  The racism may make it easier for a caucasian to get the ball rolling, or easier for an Asian to get in that first time when accompanied by a caucasian, but in the end it's what everyone is expected to do.  And once they recognise you, they seem to be fair handed.

And I'm not saying I think the system is perfect - but at least there's something anyone can do.

No, Bro Dart, I am just trying to understand it.

Yes, there are ways around this anti-chinese-in-wanchai issue..., but that isnt the question.  The question is why Chinese need to find ways around it in the first place.

Like being anti-Canadian in Canada.  umm, huh??  You fuckn kidding me????

Image how you would react in your home country?

Wander. You make it sound like Hong Kong locals are the ones discriminating against Asians.  You been there enough to know: when was the last time you saw a Chinese bouncer in wanchai? They are almost always Filipino or Nepali. So, the idea that they are discriminating against their own is a bit off... I'm not even sure who owns the clubs, but the staff at most places seems to be invariably Filipino as well. So... It's not Chinese vs Chinese as you seem to see it.

The racial based cover charges still suck. They have never charged me, and I'm mostly white, but that may just be mostly luck. I do tend to dress well, maybe that makes a difference, but I doubt it.

True to that. Some bars with Philipinos staff tend to also favour the Philipino DH too on Sunday. It happens everywhere, you always back your own in a way.

If you spend money in the place you can almost do anything you want and they will not kick you out. Money talk

I need to start by saying that there are trouble makers in all ethnicities. However my own personal "sample" (and that's all it is) is that I have found the same thing as you.

not disagreeing just saying that I have had gaps of up to 6 months between WC visits and never ever been asked to pay to enter anywhere ever.

Same.  Never been charged even when I was new to the place.  My first visit to Makati was on a busy Saturday night, and no cover charge then.  Maybe I look like a heavy drinker. haha

The average charge is zero

Not meaningful to try to establish the "average", as it'll change hour by hour depending on how busy it is.  One moment they may ask $100 for guys.  Next moment it's $100 for girls.  Or $200.  And then you're waved in free.

Don't try to understand it - just show up - and if you're asked to pay, relax: you can be sure a lot of fun people are going somewhere else, that you can find too!
