I think most people feel uncomfortable going to certain public places alone, ie cinema, theatre, bars, clubs, restaurants, concerts, etc because they don't want to be perceived as being lonely, a freak, or a loser.  I was scared too when I was younger, but learned to get over it by convincing myself for the following reasons...

1) I will be missing out on some experiences now if I had to wait until I found someone to go with me. It may be forever to find someone who has similar interests in tht activity, by then it may be too late.  Best to enjoy the now than to regret it later on.

2) I will just adopt the attitude I am on a biz trip abroad and want to experience this new city. I would hate to be like some ppl who go to only 2 places, their clients' offices and hotel when on a biz trip. Ppl are too scared to go out alone. Must explore and experience.

3) Most importantly for this forum, I may get lucky and get an ons/shag with a bird who is usually not mcot but I won't have any witnesses (friends/buds by my side) to tease me forever on my bad taste of girls.


Going or not going with a friend(s) is really dependent on whether I know the place/area or not. If going to China, it is best to go with at least a buddy for safety reasons. But in HK, it is so safe here and I can speak the lingo, so there is really no need to go with a group or buddy.

I'd be uncomfortable going to clubs and bars on my own, makes me look like a lone psycho but abit shy about chatting girls up with a friend, if i go i prefer civvies otherwise i just go to walk ups

Yeah, it is important to note that some places aren't as cool for being alone just for safety. Hong kong, Japan, Singapore.... You can not get into any trouble unless you do something incredibly stupid. Philippines, china, Malaysia... It gets a bi more dicey. There are some parts that are safe others that are less so. Soloing in those places is best left to people with a bit of experience.

Also, one thing to mention about being solo: manage your drinking. Even somewhere as safe as Osaka or Singapore, you coulda get in some trouble alone and really shitfaced drunk. Best to keep it to a good buzz unless you have someone's there to watch your back. In a place like Bangkok, shanghai, or Manila, getting really drunk alone is a really bad idea.

specifically about strip bars, my best service I get is going with female friends.  I am sure strippers seen it ALL.  Honestly, I am not a strip bar type of guy but going with female friend(s) help break the ice.  I think it makes me appear like a super cool guy & have such cool friends.  Women seem to let other women go further. The best is when you get a BI-stripper, omg it got pretty wild

How do you even broach the topic of going to the strip bars with ur female friends? Where do u meet these female friends? I would be too scared to even talk about strip bars in front of any females.

But I do admit hearing about someone who would go to Escape in HK with his female colleague for their affordable drinks during happy hour. Still amazed.

Yes it is very important to watch the drinking when drinking solo. I think I passed out once at a club in HK but lucky for me the staff knew me and watched over me to make sure I didn't hurt myself or got pickpocketed of my phone, wallet, or watch.

I am sure it depends on the type of friends you have; they just need to keep an open mind. One thing I am sure from my experience, there are many females who are curious about strip clubs.  If people are familiar with the gyms in this country, pole dancing is actually a popular gym class!  Funny thing is I have at least 2 other females who asked me to bring them too. I always say truthfully it isn't a big deal & all seem to agree after going.

Come on, in HK...I am sure civvie hk/china women are not stupid.  They know about mong kok.  they know about mistresses, sauna, walk ups, etc.  If you had a frank discussion about it, its not a shocker at all how much they know.

They know all too well from the tabloids, soap operas, movies, newspapers which causes them to assume all men are lying, cheating dogs, ie.. once every man gets wealthy he will get a mistress or play on the side while his wifey is at home taking care of the kids/house.

So basically in HK, Guys are assumed guilty until proven innocent. That is why I don't talk to the local girls about these topics as I am trying to prove that I am innocent and morally upright.

Well said.  There are simply lot of places too dangerous (though cheap) to make it worth a while.  In hooker alleys in SZ, you can get 100-150 rmb a pop, but at certain times (especially after dark), you'll see a bunch of unsavory characters around the same.  If you are by yourself with a backpack or luggage, you are bound to be robbed or thieved.  So, yea, always have a wingman or two.

Anytime you go to a bar, it is always good to have other good looking people with you, guy or girl. When you have high quality people around you, it shows that you are of high quality as well.
