Yao vs Lin totally different and not comparable, although both chinese descendent.

Yao - pure breed and homemade China. Grew up in a chinese culture and only started to learn English when he join NBA. He has the build and heights for a basket player.

Lin - this guy is ABC. US cultured. Doesnt have the build to make into pro. BTW, i think he never claimed he is a Chinese, he is a Taiwanese.

Check out latest scoreboard vs Sacremento Kings , 3rd Qtr 66 -44 , NY leading with LIN 11 assists and 8 points.

Looks like another win for the Knicks!!

Final score:
100 - 85
Another win for Knicks.

Lin was rested for the whole 4th quarter.
Game time - 26 mins with carreer high 13 assists......

they aren't comparable but it was brought up.  Obviously many asians (yeah non basketball fans) are Lin or Yao fans just because he is asian

Lin is a pretty big guy at 6'3", esp for a point guard.  I've seen upfront that he is pretty big guy.  Obviously he isn't the most diesal player out there in person. The major issue is he didn't go to a big basketball program in college to transition to the pro.  Being asian doesn't help either for many of the conspiracy theorist out there.

I personally never got the whole taiwanese claim or chinese claim. Stupid as shit convo if you ask me.

Real interesting question especially since he played in DongGuan for the Leopards over the summer.  Are there any incriminating KTV photos?

"2011 offseason

Lin recovered from an injury to his left knee during the 2011 NBA lockout.[82] In September 2011, Lin played a few games for the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) club Dongguan Leopards at the ABA Club Championship in Guangzhou, China, where he was named the MVP of the tournament.[83] Around that time, Shanghai Sharks president and former NBA star Yao Ming also tried, unsuccessfully, to sign Lin for the upcoming CBA season;[84] Lin explained[85] that as someone still under contract with the Golden State Warriors, he could not play in the CBA as the league would only admit NBA free agents.[86] A few days before the lockout was lifted on November 26, Lin had been close to signing with an undisclosed club in Italy.[87]"

Report: Jeremy Lin jersey sold on eBay for $40K

On a separate note (or notes)...

http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/22748484/34865804

What Jeremy Lin is doing for the New York Knicks is indescribable. But you can put a price on it.

CNBC.com reports that the jersey, shorts and warm-ups worn by Lin during his debut for the Knicks in December have been sold on the online auction site eBay.com for $40,000.

Here's the description of the package from the eBay seller, card77collector.

This game worn uniform is authenticated by Steiner Sports who sells the Knicks game used uniforms. All items have hand written authentication letters and corresponding authentication labels. This uniform was worn on December 28th, 2011 against the Golden State Warriors in Jeremy Lin's first ever game with the New York Knicks. He did play in this game.

Included: Jersey (XL2), Shorts (XL +2), Warm Up Pants, Warm Up Shirt

The tags are hand written and labeled as issued by the New York Knicks to Lin. All items are in the same exact condition as they were from Lin. This picture is featured by many media outlets. This is the single most unique piece of Jeremy Lin memorabilia in the world.

The 23-year-old Taiwanese-American guard, who went undrafted out of Harvard, has become a global sensation after moving into New York's starting lineup. The Knicks have won seven straight games and Lin's scoring production in his first five starts was the highest of any NBA player since the NBA/ABA merger.

The uniform's price tag is, obviously, extraordinary for someone who was a virtual unknown as recently as two weeks ago. Consider that Lin has recently spent time in the National Basketball Development League, where players often reportedly earn less than $40,000 in annual salary.

The jersey Lin worn while scoring a career-high 38 points against the Los Angeles Lakers at Madison Square Garden last week is also being auctioned for charity.

Lin is averaging 12.7 points, 5.1 assists, 2.4 rebounds and shooting 49.7 percent for the Knicks this season.

Another racial comment by the media.

ESPN ran the headline "Chink in the Armor" after Lin had nine turnovers in New York's loss to the New Orleans.  ESPN later removed the headline 35 minutes after it was posted. We regret and apologize for this mistake.

There has been a few tone down jokes by a few local sports radio in the USA but it's mainly some are not giving him any support. It looks like they don't want him to succeed.

Of course they don't want him to succeed.  America has been brainwashed into worshiping black athletes by default.  The very thought of an Asian ( who is suppose to be a submissive good boy ) succeeding in a sport that is dominated by blacks, some whites and a couple europeans thrown into the mix is definitely disturbing to most of America.  I'll just stop here before I start offending some people.

My reply got cut off:

Yes, I agree. It was the same with YaoMing. I was sad when had retired at 30 yrs old because of injuries. It would have been great if he was able to win at least 1 NBA championship before retiring.

Someone said, “If he was never injured, he would have been one of the greatest centers ever.”

Yao Ming even with all the injuries is still considered to be the best centers of all time.  A sure-fire first ballot Hall of Famer in 5 years

Yao Ming will be 32 this year... now retired, in 8 NBA seasons he scored 9247 PTS and almost 4500 rebounds. It is unfortunate that his career has been limited due to injury, however the likelihood of Yao being a HOF'r let alone a "sure-fire first ballot Hall of Famer" is slim. Off the court there is no doubt Yao's contribution had a tremendous impact on basketball's popularity in China, however on the court there isn't the kind of record that typically gets noticed in any discussion about the "best centres of all time". It will be very interesting to see however if Yao's contribution to the marketing of the sport in China factors into any decision when he becomes HOF eligible.

if it was a black racist comment, the guy would've been fired immediately.

The term was NOT just used one time on ESPN. The first time was for the head lines. The second time, it was by a sport commentator from ESPN on a broadcast.

I think Jeremy Lin should do something because I am sure the punishments were not severe, a light slap on the hands. NO interviews with ESPN, Jeremy.

Edit:

I just read there was a third incendent that was on Friday on ESPN Radio in NY. I also read ESPN has
taken following actions :

• The ESPN employee responsible for our headline has been dismissed.
• The ESPNEWS anchor has been suspended for 30 days.
• The radio commentator is not an ESPN employee.

Lin's back at it. 28 points and 14 assists against the defending champions. With only 7 turn-overs. The game against New Orleans was a deficit of 2 baskets. If Lin continues his play while keeping the TOs even slightly lower, the Knicks can definitely keep on winning.

ESPN Fires, Suspends Employees Over Racist Jeremy Lin Remarks

QUOTE:
ESPN has fired one employee and suspended another for using the same racist word in connection to New York Knicks’ guard Jeremy Lin.

In both cases, an employee used the word “chink” in reference to Lin, a Palo Alto native of Chinese descent.

“We again apologize, especially to Mr. Lin,” ESPN wrote. “His accomplishments are a source of great pride to the Asian-American community, including the Asian-American employees at ESPN. Through self-examination, improved editorial practices and controls, and response to constructive criticism, we will be better in the future.”

One employee used the word in a mobile headline -- “Chink in the Armor” -- after the Knicks lost to the New Orleans Hornets Friday night.

"I don't think it was on purpose or whatever, but (at) the same time they have apologized. And so from my end I don't care anymore," Lin said after leading the Knicks to a 104-97 win over Dallas on Sunday. "Have to learn to forgive, and I don't even think that was intentional. Or hopefully not."

Lin is the NBA's first American-born player of Chinese or Taiwanese descent.

The headline was only up from 2:30 a.m. ET to 3:05 a.m., but an SB Nation employee captured it.

A few days earlier, Max Bretos, an anchor on ESPN News used the same phrase while speaking with Knicks legend Walt Frazier. A radio commentator on ESPN’s airwaves also used the word, but the person is not an ESPN employee.

ESPN first apologized on Saturday, then issued the following statement:

“"We are conducting a complete review of our cross-platform editorial procedures and are determining appropriate disciplinary action to ensure this does not happen again. We regret and apologize for this mistake."

The Asian American Defense League also issued a statement on Saturday calling the phrase "racist and inexcusable." The organization called on ESPN to issue an apology "aired prominently on ESPN's television programs," and also offered to meet with ESPN employees to prevent future racism.

ESPN’s employees are not alone in demonstrating poor judgment when it comes to Lin. MSG, which owns the Knicks, aired an image of Lin popping out of a fortune cookie while Fox Sports columnist Jason Whitlock posted an offensive tweet about basketball’s newest star last weekend.

Whitlock apologized, saying he surrendered to the “immature, sophomoric, comedic” part of his personality.

Lin, a Harvard graduate, has come out of nowhere the past few weeks to lead the Knicks to respectability.

His instant popularity has landed him a spot in the NBA's All-Star Weekend -- in the events Saturday Feb. 25 but not the game Feb. 26 -- and also helped MSG and Time Warner Cable resolve a dispute. The two sides had been warring over fees, robbing New Yorkers of local sports programming.

His ascendance has also led to a great deal of discussion about his race and whether it inspired greater fan support.

apparently no truth to the rumors that Jeremy Lin is going out with Kim Kardashian.  "Not that kind of guy"....says Jeremy.

I would have done her just to tilt the playing field on all the whities who have bagged Asian women.
