Why? MU sucks!!!
1) Poor Ball Retention
- This was the crucial area that cost MU the game. Barca's passing and movement is probably the best we have ever seen. . MU’s ball retention was really poor, especially in midfield. The only way for MU to beat Barca is not allow Barca to have too much control of the ball.
- Barca was not playing football. They were playing basketball, Messi/Xavi dribble the ball into the box, MU defender gang up for the ball, middle and opposite wing left open, pass and score. Same tactic as Michael Jordan!!!
2) Where is United superstars?
MU played as their usual self, not underperform. But in this kind of grand competition, you need your special players to rise to the occasion and make the difference in a Champions League final.
There was no magic and spark from United's player. Rooney was running like monkey. He was too isolated. Hernendez?? I didnt even see him touch the ball for the whole 2nd half (prolly b'cos I fell asleep). No crosses from Valencia. Nani on the bench - WTF is wrong with Fergie???
Ryan Giggs (lucky charm to Fergie, but not this nite) is too old to match with the speedy Barca.
3) Midfield shortcomings
Sir Alex Ferguson has gone into all of United’s big games numerous seasons with his box-to-box midfielders, who work up and down the pitch. Long passes, crosses from left to right just doesnt work agaisnt Barca.
That tactic has worked in the Premier League and, to a certain extent, in the Champions League too. But Barcelona’s midfield of Messi, Iniesta and Xavi is a totally different oppenents.
Barca are simply light years ahead of United’s players, one to one, and United weren’t able to dominate them even for 5 minutes.
some called Barca = Spain + 1 (Messi).
Giggs, great player that he is, just never got involved and Barcelona were always one step ahead of the United midfield at every stage of the game.
Park Ji Sung (speedmaster) gambled by MU at the expense of Nani.
Was Carrick even in the game?
Valencia, for 90 mins only have 1 poor cross to the box. Left wing was not there while right wing was not doing his job.
