Well.... as usual, I will just leave it to you Mods to discuss and if need be revise the guidelines or ???

No big deal to me as I always just C+P the whole article anytime I do post on the news section.

Hey - mebbe instead make a stipulation that ALL articles in the news section MUST be in its entirity?  You think this may work to allay any concerns?

Specific to your reply tho - when I FIRST posted the article - it was NOT in the premium section; it was freely available as the day's news.  It's only the next day that articles in the SCMP gets archived and only accessible thru a premium subscription.

Premium sites like WSJ and SCMP can be such a hassle for referencing past articles because a paid subscription is needed.  So whenever I read an interesting news article in the SCMP, I usually google the article to see if the same story is available on another site that does allows free access to its archives, then I post a link to that free site.

If I cannot find the same story on another site (very rarely unable to bec most stories go through global newswires), then I don't post the news story at all as it would be disrespectful to the author to do so.

Hey this is a good alternative!

Atomic's got another thread going on this very same subject - perhaps you should repost your post over there?  Would add to the discussion.

Thanks

Well....... not as ridiculous as when entering your country Indonesia and getting told 'wink@ wink@' that there is suppossed to be tax on...whatever....but that it can be ignored if "wink@ wink@" you know what to do.

I've not crossed the border between mainland and hk/macau but I did bring my IPAD when I went to shanghai. Like a poster had already mentioned, there were no issues going to Shanghai. I might be swinging by shenzhen via HK border crossing next month and will have my IPAD with me ( i need my offmaps GPS) so I'll post again here if something occurs.

I've heard of this happening bringing laptops into the UK. If / when we travel there with a work laptop they give us a letter - which then just depends on the official.

You can pay the import vat (20%) and then reclaim it back when you leave (bloody great big faff).
