Mortons?  Ruth Chris?  If it taste the same in america as its over there, then I think you guys are missing out in the grand scheme of steakworld.  I find their steak average at best for supposely higher end.

On a side commentary, I find it unusual that many local HKers like steak well done...sometimes to the point it taste like a burnt brick I guess to each their own in this regard.

Seems like geoduck knows his meat too haha

Very close 2nd is Ruth Chris I just had the Ribeye there last week forgot the cost a little less than Mortons

3rd would be a toss up between Jimmy's kitchen and Sabatini's both in TST

I'm surprised no one mentioned Bistecca Steakhouse in Lan Kwai Fong. It's billed as HK's first authentic Italian steakhouse modeled after an old fashioned butcher shop. They serve a 32oz Fiorentina wagyu porterhouse ($898), 24oz Delmonico bone in rib eye ($718), 24oz Bistecca ($658). They also serve USDA steaks.

The Fiorentina was fantastic and I loved eating off the bone.

You can check out the menu on their website: http://www.diningconcepts.com.hk/bistecca/index.php

Are you suggesting Rico choose Cafe de Coral as the venue to bring the mods to for a steak?  You guys are really nice to him.

Actually...... I sometimes actually prefer the over tenderized terrible quality cheap steaks at local places like Sunning restaurant, Boston Cafe, and even those hole-in-the-wall Ja ChanTengs all over Hong Kong.

Having grown up here and remembering as a student, the "treat" of going for the cheap set lunch or dinner at Lily white, Queen's cafe etc and "having a steak"  - OMIGAWD!!!  what a treat!!  So much so that I still like the particular "taste and texture" of these God knows what kind of meat.

And even when I was in school in the States, every Summer holidays back, I always make it a point of eating lots of these Hong Kong style steaks. YUUUUMMMMYYYY!!  And the "sauces" smothering these steaks??  Oh WOW!!!

Oh Ok, OK - I do also like eating the "real" steaks at Mortons etc - but that's a totally different meal/experience!!
Favorite foods during childhood ALWAYS remain firm favorites!!

I've been to Bistecca before. I didn't think it was very good though. I asked for my striploin medium rare but instead it came black and blue, i.e. burnt to a crisp on the outside and rare on the inside.

When you bros say that Morton's is expensive, how much are we talking per steak?

Hey!!  Black and blue - my favorite way for a steak to be cooked.

Unfortunately it seems that no steak houses here seem to understand what I mean when I order my steak Black and blue - and no, I don't mean at the cheap Hong Kong style steak houses - I mean Morton's, the Intercontinental steak house (actually I like the old name Regent hotel much better - Intercontinental is just so....chain-operation and plebeian) and Ruth's Chris - where one would expect that they'd understand this basically American terminology.

Or have I just been unlucky?  I mean, I've tried ordering my steak black and blue - in both English and Cantonese - but always had to actually explain what I really wanted.

And by the way - nobody mentions the Prime Rib at Lawry's??  Yeah Yeah Yeah - I know, the question is T-bone steak but...........!

you can look at their website

http://www.mortons.com/

It appears the price for HK is close to US with HK a tad pricier.

HK has the pre-fix menu for $550 per person.  I had the same, it was $99usd for two here plus we had a dessert added to that.
http://www.mortons.com/steak/menu.php?id=MHK

read the catmando's posts, he said $600hkd per steak.  I think that is in the same ballpark charged here.

No one does black and blue.
They think you are crazy when you ask for even a blue steak.

Lawry's is so so, but with AE and their discount its worth going.
Morton's is still top.
Ruth is nice but their hot plates can overcook the steak and it gets oily after a while.
Hugo isn't worth trying, I gave it 2 chance. Both turned out only so so.

Teppanyaki with steak might be an alternative choice.

Lawry's is really a prime rib place, but what I do is ask them to cut me a piece that is more rare and then take it to the kitchen have them lightly grill it.  This way the outside gets more flavoring and the whole thing become more "steak like".  I far prefer it to the plain prime rib cut.

Another place I'm surprised nobody mentioned is Wagyu on Wyndham st (below dragon i).  For something like $500 you get a decent sized piece of Australian wagyu, and when combined with the wasabi mashed potatoes, it's delicious!

If you go the teppanyaki route, Matsubishi in the Harbour Renaissance hotel in Wan Chai is great.  If you have 2 people, I'd suggest one gets the wagyu and the other the american sirloin and you share.  Totally different textures and flavors but both are excellent. But the amount of steak that you actually get is far less than at a western style steakhouse.
