I would like to know if it is cheaper to buy a camera in Hong Kong than mail order in the USA. I live in the USA...
Having tried this before I have to say, just get your camera in the US. The price is about the same, and you're already there, so it should be easier for you.
The question that you didn't ask, and one that I'm surprised nobody else has asked you yet is, "Which camera do you want to get?"
If your camera is going to be a punting accessory then it should have the following features:
- really good low light performance -- hotel rooms are dark places!
- very good image stabilization -- it's hard to hold a camera steady when your taking action shots of a HG riding you!
- actual buttons -- touch screen cameras are too fussy and just don't work well when you're trying to operate them one handed.
- good low light movie mode -- you never know when you'll get lucky!
I suggest the new(ish) Sony DSC-HX5V. It's by far the best one that I've used for our "hobby".
At least for the next few weeks, your best bet it to use a vendor you find through shopping.bing.com. They're offering extra cashback until the end of July.
Here's a link to find vendors for the DSC-HX5V (

Maybe once you get a good camera you'll be able to add a few of your own shots to the BBB thread!
Good luck, and happy shopping!
