#24 Post at 18-3-2010 16:05  Profile P.M.  Font size: S M L Reply #21 sunmans's post you're pretty fucked when it comes to Japanese cell phones.  I think 99% of them operate on CDMA or TDMA.  I think the only ones that *may* have a chance of working are the SoftBank phones that uses the Softbank 3G protocol.  So I doubt if your Japanese phone will be compatible.  You'd be able to roam most likely but it would cost a lot.

You're not likely to run into any problems except for in the 3G arena (if you care about that) due to a majority of phones these days are compatible with the typical telecommunication broadcast bands are common across the world (ie. 800, 850, 900, 1900, 2100).  Calls and sms should not affect you, but if you care about your browsing speed and how much bandwidth your phone's app use, this can be a serious issue, since *some* apps are definitely more bandwidth intensive.  Case and point: Youtube.
