#22 Post at 4-2-2010 14:50  Profile P.M.  Font size: S M L I just switched from XP pro to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, it is faster and more stable than XP. Most of the applications that I have on XP installed fine on Windows 7 except Photoshop, it keeps asking me for the key, it was running fine on XP. If you want to upgrade to Windows 7 and if you have 4gb of ram of more, it's worth it to upgrade to 64 bit.

You did a clean install and a system backup, but did you install all your usual programs before doing the backup? Also, what program did you use for the system backup? I have never done one besides the system restore that comes with Windows, but I haven't used that in a long time.

I install Windows 7, then all the other programs I need on a daily basis, like Office, Photoshop, Lightroom, etc etc, then when I've got it all patched up, ready to go, then I do the backup. I use Acronis, it's a good program.  Do a google on it, and you'll see what it does.  Very useful for system recovery or when you catch some unexpected virus.  I also back it up onto a DLDVD for convenience.

But I still feel more at home with good old XP. All in all I think it is a good upgrade from vista but I wouldnt upgrade and computer with xp, why waste money when it works fine

#28 Post at 5-2-2010 06:08  Profile P.M.  Font size: S M L Given how badly microsoft products do not work, and often have too many problems.  I really don't want to buy another microcrap product ever in my life.  I rather use Linux to watch my porno online.   I think Windows 7 has too many flaws and other things to it because microsoft is too cheap to test it's product out, or actually develop something that will diagnonse a stalled computer out of the USB port. If you want to download alot of porno off the net, use Linux, it's way more stable. May somebody pie Bill Gates in the face!

#30 Post at 5-2-2010 12:07  Profile P.M.  Font size: S M L Reply #29 Eclipse's post You can use compression to decrease the needed size.  I find it best to create an Acronis Managed Zone (AMZ), which is like the emergency backup partition on most laptops.  You can then get the manager to flash upon bootup .. so if you totally fry your computer you just reboot, press F11 at the prompt, and restore from the hidden partition (AMZ). For example, if your clean install is 10GB, then you will need maybe 6GB.  However, I generally set my AMZ to 25GB, not as if hard drives aren't big enough nowadays.
