Sorry, I have to disagree with you. They still do but they do it very discreetly. Mainlanders still have a long way to go to be affleunt. In TST and Mongkok, I can still see the 'China Squat' and th ...

As soon as I see pointy shoes I know that the wearer is from China!!

And as soon as I see high heels over 3 inches in China - chances are that the wearer is gonna be open to my "suggestions."  LOL!!

Sorry, I should have been more specific.

I was referring to the store clerks.  If you look at the high end stores, a significant portion of the customers are from Mainland China, with a rare few from Hong Kong.  This wasn't the case 15 years ago.

That's why most of those clerks now are required to speak Mandarin, since they comprise such a huge portion of sales.

ECCO Shoes?

I walk around a lot in my job and would like to wear something comfortable but also a pair that does not look too
obviously like sneakers. Someone recommended ECCO shoes. Has anyone tried it?

It will be nice to be able to pop into the gym for a workout with the shoes I am wearing instead of having to carry
another pair.

Any opinions?

Not a bad choice, but definitely not something you want to be going to the gym all the time in.

I often wear black sneakers for that purpose.

I personally would like to find those buddist kung fu shoes.  Mainly to see how different they are from the usual western design shoes.  I am curious how long do those shoes actually last when they are made in the old style.

Maybe it's because China has TWO HUNDRED TIMES MORE PEOPLE than Hong Kong? (And 100%+ luxury taxes, and higher pricing of luxury goods in general.) Has nothing to do with class.

Bought a pair of Converse from the states recently as they are quite cheap out there but they are actually a pain in the ass to get into if you get the ones that go up to the ankle...............

I have no idea what you're getting at here.

Class?

China has had 200x++ as many people as in Hong Kong for a very long time, yet 15 years ago, most of the customers were not Mainland Chinese.  Now they are.

That's all I'm saying.

I have worn a few pairs of Ecco shoes.  They are very comfortable and at a very reasonable price.  If you are a golfer, their golf shoes are top notch.

Try out a pair for yourself and see how you like them.

That's an offshoot of a new craze: barefoot running.  The really hardcore guys do it literally barefoot (on golf courses to start usually).  The five toe runningshoes are to provide some sort of minimal interface to modern (concrete) terrain.  The theory is that the modern running shoe, with all its cushioning and heel control, actually makes the foot weaker and therefore more prone to injury.  Strong feet = strong stride and better bio-mechanical balance.

I didn't do it.  Really I didn't.

I would have to agree with Finn.  Dior makes a great sneaker and super comfy.  The only complaint I have about their sneakers, is they tend to put a strip of suede on the toe of the sneaker and its impossible to keep clean. Both pairs that I have are all dirty in the front.

Finn:  Since you have worn 7 pairs what is your suggestion or what do you do to keep that suede clean?

I have a pair from the 2008 season, nothing, and I mean nothing, can clean white suede.  I looked into this 2 years ago.

Dior is more focused on women for sure,  but the Dior Homme sneaker line is superpopular amongst men...
"damned expensive" is around 4kish hkd  some are 3800hkd some are 4200hkd...

That is so bigoted.  You in the habit of stereotyping over a billion people by their shoes?  You must be the illegitimate son of Earl Butz.  Was it worth it justto gain the karma point?
