preface: my comments do NOT mean I agree with everything sexpert writes ...
But when I read his comment it didn't actually strike me as either racist or necessarily even fuzzy thinking, it struck me as a report of his experience. I was certainly not offended because he's never visited my own home ... and I'd probably not even be offended if he did find it smelled weird to him.
"Whenever I go into a White person's home, there is a weird stench [... snip ...] I bet when White people enter my home, it smells odd to them too."
OK I will challenge whether ALL the white people's homes he's visited strike him with a "weird stench", or to the same degree, but it's certainly a possibility and he does balance his view. Certainly, my own experience of visiting people's homes is they all smell different, and sometimes it does take a particular effort for me to be comfortable.
I also observe he might be unusually sensitive to smells, very much the opposite of me.
"I think my SO and I had so much in common that there was no way I was going to marry another person, our houses probably smelled the same because I never smelled anything odd about her house when I went. "
Forgive me if I'm splitting hairs again!!
Just idling the brain
I agree there's a lot of harm done by sharing (and even by tolerating) racist stereotypes. I just wanted to comment that this one didn't strike me as racist per se.
