I thought I read somewhere that Federer had 50 aces in that match, compared to just 27 for Roddick?

Roddick could not have played a worse tie break in the second set when he was up 6 - 2 and on his serve.  He should have heeded Jim Courier's advice on how to play tiebreaks.  "On your serve, play conservatively to hold serve; on the opponent's serve, play aggressive; all you need is one mini-break to win the tiebreak, while holding your own serve."  At 6 - 2 on Roddick's serve, he should have served a high kicking serve on his first serve, and followed that in to the net.

At that point, Roddick lost the match, and the championship.

The 2nd set at the tie break when Roddick was 6-1 up on the tie break with just one point to get to 2-0.

It take a really cool swiss like Federer to claw back winning his 2 service to 6-3, then over to Roddick where he broke his 2 serves to 6-5,
Again holding on to his 2 serves to 7-6 and breaking Roddick serve again to 8-6.

Nail biting!

Its real hard to read Federer's serves. He doesn't pack power in his serves, just precision and guile. Roddick served so well the whole match also. He had a lot more 1st serves in than Federer, and even on his 2nd serves, he was serving confidently.

I hope he gets another shot at Wimbledon before his career is over. Anyone remember Ivanisevic? 3 time Wimbledon runner-up, losing to Agassi once and Sampras twice. In his 4th and final attempt, he finally wins Wimbledon, beating Rafter and becoming the first wildcard entry to do so.

Roddick's been to 3 Wimbledon finals now. Perhaps the 4th time would be lucky for him.

don't forget there someone name nadal that was not even in this wimbledon, if nadal doesn't get any more injury i don't think roddick have any chance of winning at least wimbledon. his best chance to capture a major will be US open cause of his serve.

I also hope Roddick gets to win at least another major tournament.  I'm impressed with this guy, he worked so hard to get to the final again.  He seems a nice guy too when interviewed, humble.  I liked the way he kept his emotions in control throughout the semis and the final.
I guess Federa is a nice guy too, but sometimes he seems a bit condecending during his winners speech.  Could just be my interpretation.  He's such a naturaly gifted player while Roddick and other seems to have to work harder.

I agree. Just as one legend put it, "Federer is the greatest tennis player to hold a racket".

well.. at least he'll maintain his No 1 rank until the US Open... we'll see how he goes when Montreal comes along on Aug 10th... hope he still has the drive to continue on for his 16th GS Trophy
guess we wont see Mirka accompanying him then... I've never seen her not with him at a tournament except for that one day during Wimbledon....
