IMHO, prices in 2008 did NOT significantly go down and just stayed pretty well the same.  From what my uncle said, the same could not be said for the period 1998-2004, periods when Hong Kong really got hit with the full brunt of everything bad - from the stock/property market crash to the SARS debacle, which saw Hong Kong turn to becoming practically a ghost town.  

All the above coupled with the marked deviation of mongering habits for a lot of HKG punters all made prices really come tumbling down. During this period 1998-2004, most of the very expensive KTV's/nightclubs (which had been the mongering venue of choice of most punters) had gone bust with more and more guys starting to favour/preferring the much lower priced and better quality/quantity action in Southern China.  

Then there was the advent of web sites such as ours which basically transformed WG's from their previous perception as only suitable for the dregs of the lower class to nowadays being quite acceptable by most.  And even HG's - prior to the internet, one needed to be introduced to/know the Mommies/pimps to avail oneself of hotel gals; and at that time the prices started at HK$1,400 even for the most common HG!  With the internet, prices dropped rapidly and mongering became a much more proletariat undertaking by all strata of society.

Increased "supply" from the mainland - mainlanders progressively being quite liberally allowed into Hong Kong - had also allowed prices to come down during the same period.

Both quite well written, at approximately the same time and yet one had gathered 11 favorable rating comments and 29 K points whilst the other one, only a couple "request" type ratings  and only 2 K's!

There is an informal consensus here whereby many of the senior bros will give extra Ks or go out of their way to give Ks for a newbie's 1st report just to give the newbie some positive encouragement (also to ward off any whining should the newbie doesn't get enough Ks that he thinks he deserves for his 1st report) regardless of the quality of that 1st report. The db pics weren't a factor.

My point is proven when it comes to his 2nd report. Though his 2nd report is of much higher quality than the 1st, he didn't gained as many Ks as before because the seniors think he doesn't need any more boost (assistance to attain next status) because he got 31Ks in his 1st report.

Hopefully the newbie realizes 31 Ks is a lot and appreciates the welcome gift that was presented to him.

Welll...it's actually more of a shift towards lower priced mongering options rather than an outright drop in price.

As far as I know, the WG's remained within the realm of the old pricing but that more guys would go to WG's rather than spend say at least $2,000 for a nightclub/KTV and a further $3000 for one pop with the gal.  HG's though did drop down quite a bit from the previous $1,400 ++ together with the proliferation of these type of "high-clock" gals coincident with sites such as ours. Guys who still prefer to go to Nightclubs had then flocked to KTV's in Shenzhen/Dongguan where the costs were way cheaper.

I don't know if you know about how bad it was during SARS - but just about all venues in Hong Kong were like ghost towns and just about everybody had face masks on; I even saw some people out and about with full surgical masks AND surgical eye visors - so you should be able to imagine that there were not that many brave souls who would chance catching SARS by being in such close contacts as when one is doing the dirty with a gal!!  

And I don't know if you are aware of Chinese Economics 101 or not - but at times when demand is slow, many a business owner would hold steadfast or even raise their pricing - the logic being that if there's so much less business, then one needs to charge more to make up for the lost earnings! Swear that this is true - and actually one can see many instances of this type thinking going on in the PRC every day! Thus the reason why, as far as I know, no discernible drop in actual pricing....just guys NOT partaking in droves.

I was in China when SARS hit. We were in the middle of it and didn't know it was going on. The gov't tried to cover it up. At the time SZ was a Special Economic Zone. I remember going into Shenzhen waiting in a line to check passports and IDs. About a month later we were back in the USA is when News on how bad it was started.

Then people didn't travel and people who had vacations planned to China/Asian cancelled. Completed flights were cancelled because lack of passengers. For mongering, majority stayed away during that period. There was a 80% change of dying, if you caught it, bad odds.

All business in China started to drop including prostitution. There were of girls around but far, far less customers. Girls needed the money far more than guys needing a fix. I do know someone who lived in China at time. I have no proof but I believe he was still fucking girls periodically during SARS.  Later he claimed he was wearing a mask with this one girl. He said nothing changed with pricing.  

My two other friend from the USA called their KTV girlfriends in China. They said everything was normal like before. The girls were located in a small town in Taishan / Kaiping area. I guess things were different if you are in a small town compared cities like GZ, SZ and HK.  At the border to HK and China, I heard it was like a ghost town. If anyone did cross, there were wearing masks.

They never found a cure for SARS. If it does hit again, I would certainly stop mongering ( punting ) for a while.

Actually, a lot of us in Hong Kong thought that it WAS the end of civilization as we know it; it WAS that bad for here was a disease that kills, without any sure fire cure and worse, no effective way to have controlled/avoid it. Daily reports of new infections and death toll, more travel and other restrictions...and us even being shunned/quarantined by many other countries.

Scary announcements on what we all must do to TRY to avoid the disease whilst we all knew very well that these same authorities telling us what to do/not do haven't got a clue themselves. It WAS bad - and this scenario can easily be replayed again - for like I said, various authorities have now predicted that Avian flu is DEFINITELY going to be a challenge some time in the future; just as soon as the virus can get transmitted bird to human and the whole she-bang goes up.

All of this reminds me to forever be grateful for each day in health that I pass.

Of late, I have been under constant and relentless attack by a group of Seniors railing against the Idle Chat thread, and I would like to throw it here for discussion/for your own opinions/suggestions/rebuke as to how this thread is participated by all of us.

First on their agenda to close our thread down is the fact that I DO grant each and every poster here a K for participating; in my mind, at first to build a critical mass for its viability, later on as I realize that especially for newbies, they DO many times require a bit of a push to even make their first tentative dip of their toes here and then to really start to participate in the other parts of our forum.

Second, they have accused us of “Mutual Karma Whoring” where the only reason I give K’s to others here is to have some kind of quid pro quo grant of K back to me. Please advise me if I EVER even suggest to ANY ONE of you to do this? In fact, I would appreciate it if someone here can recall the thread where I actually stated that you must NOT do that (Ooops…I myself cain’t find it yet!! Sigh…). I mean, do I really need more K's?

Third is their assertion that this thread serves NO useful purpose whatever towards the aims of the form. I maintain that it IS a convenient place for ANYBODY to congregate, shoot the breeze when NOT having any particular gal/particular discussion to report on AND to just experience and enjoy the sense of camaraderie that is important for any forums such as ours.

Let me just throw this brief post to you guys and hopefully we can shape our thread into something even better.

Hello. My thoughts are that this is a good thread cos it keeps all the banter and random chat into one thread instead of spread out across the board. I personally enjoy reading the thread to know random things about HK or China. Lots of bros have experiences that they have been very kind to share.

I think this thread has already built up sufficient traction over the past year. If karma points is a concern, Mods can consider moving it to a section that doesn't give Ks. Ppl will still visit to join in the chat.

I am unclear on what the point of the Mongers Lounge is that this could or could not be contributing to? I mean, I get that the main reporting forums are for reporting - and they are pretty tightly policed and controlled. They are great. But what is the actual point of the Mongers Lounge if not just random BS?

I guess we could take this thread and break it into a number of smaller conversations - it's really of no difference to me. I don't really see why it's a big deal either way.

I WILL say that one thing that's been annoying me on the forum is the endless wash of the same 10 or so basic questions that could have been answered with a basic search, which all create another useless 10-15 response thread, such as "Which walkup has more girls" or "whats the best place to start" or "What punter phone should I get". But I guess I'm as new as anyone, and shouldn't cast stones. My first NN post was "Whats the best bar to go to get a girl who is ready to go?" ~ a post for which SEAJ told me he was sure at first I was just another post-and-run Noob ~ and for which since then I have realized he was right for feeling, since so many others are exactly that.

I like the fact that there is a thread that allows us to just shoot the shit.  Sometimes you just want to have a chat with a group of people who take our lil hobby seriously.  There is nothing wrong with this thread, certain mods are just a bunch of old haters.  I know some of the mods don't like me, and I'm pretty sure it has something to do with my involvement with this thread when it first started and me calling them a bunch of clandestine cock suckers regards to a post I made about a year ago that had very private video footage in China.  There are certain mods and people who NEVER give me K's, can I complain about that?  No, because there are no rules on how and when you need to give K's.

Also, as a relative newcomer to this board (only 1 year+ of active membership as compared to 4 years+ by some of the senior bros), the good thing about this thread is that it is very friendly. You can come in here and just post anything and someone will gladly entertain your question, provided you're not being retarded or posting some outright nonsense. It helps to make the board seem less clique-ish and more welcoming to newbies. They don't have to worry so much about whether their posts are too short or doesn't really add value to the board. What results is a membership that's consistently growing...more importantly, it builds up an active membership too. Newbies won't be daunted so fast and they'll be more likely to stay.

On a totally unrelated note, I read today in the news about Sun Hung Kai bosses getting arrested by the ICAC. With the new boss in HK coming in, it'll be quite interesting to see what other scandals will be dug up. I'm guessing that the big businesses must now arranging high level internal meetings in the next week or so to assess whether they too have any previous dealings that may be potentially exposed by the new incoming administration.

I'm quite new here but kindly allow me share my opinion.

The IDLE CHAT THREAD of SEAJ is already an established and recognized thread where in members (newbies and seniors) interact with one another about various events so i hope it stays that way.
The significant part is we learn from what we read and gain knowledge from discussions specially healthy exchange of difference in opinions.

As for the Karma points, may we just consider it as a reward granted for something well done/well deserved, a sign of appreciation from the fellow members to another member who exerted efforts and make contributions to spice up the forum.
Giving Karma points encourages more participations and with more credible infos, we'll all benefit from it.
