I would imagine the line in the sand is that they don't get paid in HKG.  They are gainfully employed elsewhere and travel and perhaps work in HKG as part of their employment in a different jurisdiction.  And even then I would suppose they could only hang out so long before needing to leave.

If they get paid in Hong Kong, then they would need a proper visa, pay taxes, etc......

Can't see how this would apply to a WG.

Again, apologies - didn't see your post until after I rate commented on Wachovia's post.

And as far as processing Permanent Hong Kong work visas - whilst the requirements are probably not as onerous as in other countries, it nonetheless IS quite a process.  For one it requires a proper justification as to why the job could not be done by a Local instead of the imported worker - and may even require proof that the employer had already advertised for such post! One time, I  I actually had to have a headhunter friend of mine to write on our behalf that he conducted a search for the position just to accomplish an internal transfer at my company!!

And on another occasion, when another of my guys went over to the Immigration department, they insisted that he produce our company's latest financials/Balance sheet!!! Can you imagine me wanting to let an employee see our financials? I had to go myself to show this!

Pain in the Royal....!

SEAJ

Ps Edit:
I wonder how many guys are here this week-end on work visits??
Convenient that the Sevens just happens to be on at the same time huh?! LOL!

I would not get this type of apps, there are more than enough information online which you can get via proxy for privacy. With the tracking mechanism on these devices, they will know where you have been and able to track your whereabouts if they want to. Definitely not a good idea at all. LOL.

All the recent news of raids and LE activity in HK reminds me to ask.  Do the cops in HK "date" strippers/wg's on a widespread basis?

I ask because I know for a fact that many LE's--especially the younger, newer ones--in the US do.  I personally know a few LE's that do/did...mostly strippers...having accompanied them on out on nights on the town.  Most of the wg's are usually more Escorts than SW's...but in principle they have the same occupation.

" Do the cops in HK "date" strippers/wg's on a widespread basis?"

Of course there are one or two that date WGs, but definitely not widespread. Though HK is a big city, it's actually quite small cos ppl just love to gossip, share news, etc. So all you need is to get spotted once by the cousin of the grocer and within a day, your social circle will know of your new gf. Not worth the drama!

I'm wishing for a miracle here, but what jobs are available in Hong Kong which don't require reading and writing in Cantonese/Mandarin?

I'll be finishing my MBA in a year and looking to move to Hong Kong or Singapore.  It's been a long term plan of mine for years, though my studies have kept me so busy that I've stopped learning to read and write Cantonese to focus on school.  I can speak it fairly well but not Mandarin at all.  My family is from Hong Kong so I've always spoken Cantonese and getting my HKID card + RTL is just a matter of time. I've looked at a few international schools but I'm rather underqualified (no teaching degree) and overqualified (MBA not required for a sales/business development position) at the same time.  What non-finance (not my background) jobs are there for ex-pats?  I'll be making appointments with recruiters and agencies in Hong Kong late in 2012.

Hate to prick your bubble – but when I was a newly minted eager and bushy tailed MBA graduate, I also thought that the world was then my own oyster – but the reality is that MBA degrees are not all that uncommon.  Every job vacancy is applied for by tons of fresh MBA’s whilst employers are only on the look-out for MBA’s that already have at least some experience and have proven themselves so to call – so your first job is going to be the hardest for you to land – and is critical to your future career path.

This being so, I would suggest that you should concentrate more on applying for/attend your local university recruitment fairs – emphasizing your ability to speak Cantonese and your familiarity with Hong Kong and permanent HKID card to stand out from the rest. Over here in Hong Kong, you’d be amongst a horde of job applicants all able to speak Cantonese etc – but in your own country – welllll….you’d stand out a bit!  And the natural proclivities of employers is to hire on people more like themselves – i.e. from their own country who they feel should share their own values/standards etc. And after a stint at head office to make sure you do know what the company wants to do, then send you out overseas on their mission/wishes to expand internationally. You should also express your willingness to relocate and/or travel, but NOT insist on right away being relocated to Hong Kong or ??  Guys who specify that they are only willing to work at one place or another are deemed to NOT have the interest of the company at heart/only interested in fulfilling their own aims of living overseas.

As far as what jobs are available in Hong Kong – well… Hong Kong IS a large city – and just about ANY jobs in any industry is out there!  And yes, we do have quite a lot of “expatriates” all wanting to go and teach English – so, I’d suggest you NOT steer towards that, especially when you’re not fully qualified to do so; too many of these wannabe English teachers hanging out in Wanchai already!

And I’d suggest you do take up ANY jobs offered as things really ain’t all that rosy as far as the world’s job situation is – and try your best NOT to have any gaps at all from when you graduate from school. Such “gap” periods does not look good in your resume.

Just IMHO

SEAN, Awww…. You’re so sweet aintcha??!! LOL!

Ps edit
You may also want to throw this question out on a separate "Veggie cafe" thread to get more "hits"

To explain a bit further on my rating comment - basically, most civil servants in Hong Kong are VERY concerned about even being tarnished by association as the Independent Commission Against Corruption are known to closely look at such associations as leads towards uncovering corruption; the old where there's smoke there's fire thing.

Plus the fact of the matter is that Hong Kong society is still quite hypocritical and many still subscribe to the idea that certain gals are only for certain things and the twain shall never meet.  Thus its OK to use, pay or take advantage of certain types (WG's!!) but its a totally different matter as far as dating or socializing with them - for in their eyes, these gals are just way beneath their own social standing.  Yes...harsh..sad..but IMHO Hong Kong still has NOT become that liberal in our social mores.

On another topic - all of a sudden my [email protected] email address stopped accepting emails addressed to it.  Friend phoned me that his mail to me got bounced and I've also tested it myself and got back

OK, I got a question that I'm curious about after reading some comments on this board about how the prices of the girls have gone up, etc. During the financial crises of 1998 & 2008, did the price of the girls go down? I only started seriously mongering in HK/Macau in 2010, so I'm not too familiar with the history.

I'm imagining that it should right since people have less money and thus, with less demand, prices would go down noticeably? Or is the demand for paid fucks pretty insensitive to changes in income? Or maybe the supply of girls coming over from the mainland dries up a bit too?

Chances are another economic shit storm is coming and if prices of the girls go down...well, that's at least soem good coming out of it.

I actually have quite a bit of good work experience.  My MBA will compliment what I already have.  Part of the reason I decided on my MBA several years back was because I was stuck in middle management while others who had similar work experience and then got their MBAs were being promoted to senior positions ahead of me.  I have no intention of getting into teaching, but rather my education and experience is on the sales, marketing and business development side.  Hence why I've also been considering Singapore.

To Weelock: I'd never be able to get a job in China simply because I don't speak Mandarin.  A local Canadian friend of mine gets sent to Guangzhou every year to keep an eye on the company's Chinese market expansion because he's fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin, Japanese and English.  And from what I've researched on Thailand, jobs of my background and experience and that would pay the salary I'm looking for tend to be given to upper class Thais.
