My Putonghua is terrible...just know random phrases here and there. Enough to be able to order food in a restaurant without a menu and to do simple bargaining. But not good enough to call up a hotel and make a reservation using Putonghua.

Anyway, on the link you posted, I managed to find Miraton's email address and emailed them. They quoted RMB408 (RMB 438 on weekends) for a deluxe single room. Is this about correct?

Please note that Miraton's rates - like most hotels in CP - are quite fluid and a lot depends on when you're booking i.e. say during the Canton Trade Fair season, its raised.

it hasn't started rolling yet, but i've finally decided to document my adventures in Phnom Penh from years ago--working on it, there will be some reports and fotos that i think will prove interesting. the scene has changed considerably (some for the better, some not) but it's still going--i referenced my recent reports in the first post. mentioning it here as i know some of u guys have experienced the Cambodian capital, and i hope to get feedback and your experiences...the place is nutty enough that there are any number of perspectives. i can only report on what i experienced, which was...considerable.

thanks for info man. I was checking the rates for the third week of february. Looks like the price quoted direct by hotel is only about RMB 30 more. Will definitely try one of the agent's services. Just checking, do you know if any of the agents have an office at the Miraton? I recall reading somewhere here that one of them does have an office in there but can't seem to find it anymore.

Yes, it's only 30 or so bucks different - but the other bigger advantage of booking your hotel via an agent is that you will then avail yourself of their other services and assistance.

Things like booking saunas, footies and most importantly KTV rooms when the town gets over-run with mongers - which it does many times, especially during week-ends. And of course another great thing is that agents like BS Dave will "pair you up" with other like minded mongers in town during these KTV sessions. This is quite important as then you get to meet up with other English speaking guys who you probably end up befriending and going on "adventures" with i/o being a Lone Ranger in a strange and wild little town. Or just to chat with at a footy or Starbucks etc about our common hobby!

And as per my rating comment - its GoFly (Ken) that's at the Miraton. This is quite a large outfit and quite "institutionalized" and thus one really cannot expect some of the more personalized touch that some other smaller agents may offer.

i like this report. first of all, few Swedes wd brave the wilds of this town, despite the (rumored) plethora of poussoir. but Sean has not only one, but a number of tales to tell.

and China is not exactly a safe place. it's good to have an idea of what things are like. yes, there are some reports on this forum, and good ones. but Sean not only witnessed a serious disagreement, but took fotos out the window...the quality's not great, but in some ways that makes them better as u get the dark, not-friendly vibe: guys in suits, a black SUV...a reminder that we are in a place where somebody's in control, and it ain't anyone we know, or WANT to know. doesn't mean we shouldn't go. just means we shd be AWARE.

and then he complains his gal has been eating too much Toblerone and gotten chunky. well, yeah that happens too. but u want the extra luggage, or a ride in the SUV? in any case, this is worth reading for those curious about the district.

i'm hoping for more reports on Dongguan/CP/Zhuhai. situations there change, and info is a huge plus--esp for those of us whose Chinese-language skills are like chewing on gravel. details, scans of bizcards, maps, pix of signs, reports of Men In Black...these are all good. our Swedish pal shd write more reports. all bros with inside info: share and care. we ALL gain.

Bros, thanks for your answers regarding CP above. Very useful. I have another question to seek your inputs. I'm organizing this trip for my buddies (about a 6 of us total) and they all want to do Macau and CP. The itinerary is HKG-->CP --> Macau --> HKG.

Getting from HKG to CP should be ok since we can take one of them MPVs from the airport. How about from CP to Macau? What is the fastest way to get there? By land or by ferry?

This question is rather harder to answer and HAS been asked many times by many people prior...and unfortunately /basically, there is just no easy way to tackle this journey!

The usual "best" reply had always been to just get a private car from Chang Ping to Zhuhai (agents in CP can easily arrange  this) and should cost approx RMB 450 one way for a regular car for 4 pax and probably RMB 600 or so for a van that can seat your 6 pax.  But this takes at least 3 hours (if I recall, the last time I did this trip) just to get to Zhuhai and then you'd need to cross the border to Macau. Note, not really worth it to get a "cross border" car that can take you all the way to Macau as those cars are way more expensive and the land border crossing is quite easy to navigate; depending on time of day/the crowds should not take over 10-15 minutes to cross over by foot.

You should also check with the transport counter at the Hui Mei hotel lobby as I THINK there is a twice daily Bus to Zhuhai/Macau.

Another POSSIBLE way - as now presented by the recent opening of the Zhuhai NORTH to Guangzhou SOUTH fast train (journey time between 48 to 73 minutes, depending on how many intermediate stops - http://www.chinatrainguide.com/g ... station/zhuhai.html ) is to go BY CRH train from Chang Ping (about 40 minutes/RMB 50) To GZ East, by taxi (approx RMB 70-80 and an hour) to GZ South station to take this new line.  But this line right now only reaches Zhuhai NORTH and it'll take another approx. 40 minutes/RMB 60) to the Gongbei border.

Don't hold me to any of the timing/fares as this is just a POSSIBILITY/have never heard anybody actually going this route. But it "sorta" make sense. LOL!

Probably best to just forget that 3rd option and just stick with a private car/van to Zhuhai and walk over to Macau! Oops!

To get to Nansha from CP, you'd need to either cross the Humen bridge (which brings you to within an hour from Zhuhai) or go around Guangzhou - way longer route. No way anybody would take this route. Either way it would take 3 hours by car to Nasha as a minimum I'd imagine.

If you're contemplating ferries, the only one that COULD make sense is the ferry from Shekou (Shenzhen)

I think you have the non-native hk/macau/china goggles.  Majority of the girls on the DB looks like 9s/10s compared to the local asian providers.

On your question - no you do not have to pay anything if you reject a girl/ask for another one.  In fact, most times a HG will ask you if she's OK or not before doing anything.  But as soon as you say OK, then the clock/charges starts!

It was not my intention to spam.  You are correct that I can't access the thread you're talking about but I can access the chinese forum.  There are many reports on that girls and many pictures of her, some of which is gorgeous and some not as much but still hot (really a matter of taste).  I was just whining about the local talent compared to hk/macau/china.
