As a recent newby myself I can relate to your concerns. I've had several walk-up experiences in the last months, and with each I get a little wiser on the ways of 141. Here's what I've learned.

Walk-ups are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get until you bite into it. However, there are a number of things you can do to improve your chances of a having a good experience. It is indeed possible to find clean, safe, and unrushed, and beautiful certainly does exist.

My first experiences were nerve wracking. I was nervous about the potential for disproving looks as I walked off the street in to a 141 building, and concerned that it in fact might not be safe. I was also fixed on finding a girl that I had seen in the DB. I was concerned that I might get a girl just putting in a rushed and unenthusiastic experience. Lots of concerns, and here's how I got over them, and what I learned.

Fear not the safety or disapproving stares. I don't linger at the front door, and nobody would likely care of I did. Respect other punters privacy and don't attempt eye contact, but jump pass them quietly. While some of the buildings may be a little rough around the edges, they are safe.

It's ok, and in fact preferable, to knock on a number of doors before deciding on a girl. Many of the girls are not in the DB, those that are often aren't in the rooms identified. It's ok to knock on the door to see if she's your type and the vibe is right. Check out as many as it takes before you are comfortable. Her looks and vibe will tell you a lot. Some are pushy and jumpy, others exude warmth right away. And sometimes you's see a face that's just your type, or an awesome rack, or great legs, and you know you have to try her. Don't let pushy salesmanship get you in a door, but wait for Ms. Right. It's ok to detail what you'd like and confirm she offers it.

I've tried Hing Loong Bld and Kam Bong Bld in Sheung Wan and both have their pluses. Kam Boong seems to be touch fancier, with prices to match, the girls younger and in many cases prettier. Hing Loong has some older (that's relative, they are all young to me), but more experienced girls. Experience can be a good thing. They are unrushed and can really thrill.

Both those buildings have several floors of action. It's hard to imagine nothing going on. One can normally knock on a couple of dozen doors in each of them. Maybe it's just because of CNY that you didn't find any action.

Just want to give you the strength to say 'no' when you get a bad vibe or just are not into the girl who opens the door. After being pretty good at this, on my last visit I managed not to do this.
