Agree with you geoduck.  I was originally looking forward to getting my hands on the iPhone 4, but I'll stuck with my 3gs until they make it "iPerfect".

Amazing the international demand for the phone continues to be huge. Heard there were lines out the door also for the new droid.  Must say apple giving out bumpers is at least a good gesture.

Apple salvaged some of the reputation by offering the free cases, and full refund if the customer wants it. Looks like they haven't lost their PR touch, even after their initial misstep, by stating it was simply a software glitch and hot hardware issue. They had to face the music after the CR statement, as lots of people do respect the CR analysis of products.

I'm in that situation, gonna wait to see any changes to the iPhone 4, and look at the various Android phones available.

Yeah of course Jobs would get defensive. Much easier to point out the potential faults of others instead of shutting it and taking the high road. FWIW, if I was in his position, I'd probably try to deflect some of this negative press too.

Not a bad outcome for Apple, considering the bumpers cost about $1 to manufacture.  Hope they learn something from this experience.

To get the bumper you order it online.  The site is not updated for this yet.  It is not available in the apple store itself.  Also it is either a number or a case, your choice. Should be up in the next few days.

From the article:

"We're not feeling right now that we have a giant problem we need to fix," Jobs said. "This has been blown so out of proportion that it's incredible."

I LOVE how pissed Jobs is about all this negative press he's getting.
After all, it's all the hyped up press that sells iPhones and iPads in the first place.

Live by the sword, die by the sword.

He has been pretty successful in drawing into question whether other smartphones have similar antenna issues.  With his praentstion and now on te web apple shows signal loss wit different grips on blackberry and other brands. So know he has the other companies on the defensive

Unfortunately, Apple is holding the world by it's balls.  Despite these issues, iPhone will still continue to sell well for a long time.

Wouldn't it be interesting if there was a revolt worldwide and everyone all stopped buying Apple products?

Well most people like the underdog, and the rebel/carefree attitude that symbolized Apple. However, now the underdog story is gone, as they have a dominate position in many areas. They are starting to get a bit of backlash from the usual technogeeks. The appeal to the masses now, but just like MS a couple of decades ago, they may be viewed as the evil empire sooner or later.

probably true.  and the question is whether they will continue to innovate.  people may not be willing to pay twice the price for the macbook and the computers versus dell and hp forever.  the question will be whether there are new product thats we have not even thought of yet.

My only comment on innovation, is that Apple doesn't so much innovate as in "inventing" something new. Rather, they are great at taking an idea and improving on it, be it style or substance related and then marketing the heck out of it, such that you must have this product.

Now I'm not hating on Apple, I think they are great story, and in fact outside of probably the iPhone and iPad I've always had one of their products. But as with any company that gets too big for their britches, they need some humility. Ideally some startup can put some fear back into them and keep them on their toes, though it's harder these days as the big companies simply buy up the promising startups.

The Dell Ipad / phone is out already in Europe.  It's a small tablet will a phone.

In the USA it will retail for $500 USD.  If you get a 2 yr data plan, it's free.  It looks like good a deal since I need  phone service anyway. Then get the cheapest data plan offered which I believe is 5 USD a month.  So a 2 yr plan at 5 USD X 24 = 120 USD.

Main Specs:
A 5-inch 800x480 capacitive multitouch display,
1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU, 5-megapixel front-facing camera,
Wi-Fi/3G/Bluetooth,
2GB of storage expandable via SD cards.
Android 2.1 and will be upgradeable to Android 2.2--which means Flash 10.1 support

You might also consider the new 4 G phone by Sprint called EVO 4G.

Yup definitely looking into the HTC phones. But since I like my phones subsidized I'll wait a little while to see what transpires with the iPhone and evaluate other ones as well before signing on for another term.

Another wired thing on the iPhone is that if you leave it put in the hot sun for too long it goes into a mode where it says unsafe to use until it cools down.  You can fry an egg on it that's how much it heats up.
