I don't follow HK politics anymore but if she is really that angry then you better rush over to do her now while she still has the looks because people who are angry often eventually turn into bitter-looking hags by their mid-30s.

she was voted into legco last month and she advocates independence for HK - essentially so that HK becomes separate from China
her platform is everything anti China and its people ... her support base comes from some disillusioned young people
and students in HK who believes they are entitled to getting a good life without having to work hard and achieving something

being a legco member, her base salary is HK$92,000 + $90,000 in expenses / mth
not bad for someone without experience in anything except protesting against the government

Attention seeker, adds nothing constructive to the discussion. She and her buddy basically took a big fat dump on Hong Kong's history, using the term "chee-na" instead of China in their swearing in ceremony. She added some extra cheese by including some cursing to it.

FYI, the word chee-na was used as a derogatory term by Japanese military during Hong Kong's occupation. The occupation lasted 4 years, the Japanese basically starved local Chinese, treating them like animals, many resorting to eating tree barks to survive. Murder. Rape. Stories of cannibalism still remain in the minds of the elderly who endured that period. Tens of thousands died.

Those who have seen Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury will remember the famous scene where Bruce Lee was refused entry into a park, with a sign that prohibits Chinese and dogs to enter. That pretty much sums it up.

While the oath incident is regrettable, I'm surprised she's getting so much hate here.

Should I take it that everyone on this thread want HK to become a 2nd tier china city? Do you really understand what it will mean? You guys don't like freedom, fair justice, free market? Expect a nice crackdown on your favorite hobby too.

There is a difference between wanting Hong Kong to prosper, continue to be a leading city in Asia, wanting freedoms, fighting for beliefs and what these two kids are doing.

They say they are not Chinese, they want Hong Kong to separate from China, they spit on Hong Kong and China's history, they disrespect Hong Kong's governing bodies and legal system, they incite violence and disorder.

Furthermore they used moronic excuses after the oath, citing that Chee-Na is China in his dialect accent from Ap Lei Chau, the "HK is Not China flag" is a pashmina and just fashion. They couldn't even take responsibility for what they said, and even after the backlash and so much discontent they couldn't issue an apology for disrespecting those who died and suffered in the war. This is not the behavior of lawmakers who represent Hong Kong and the people.

I am all for freedoms and democracy, but these kids do not stand for what I believe, they are a disgrace Hong Kong and the Chinese people.

I understand that politics is a touchy subject, and that perhaps a mongering site isn't the best medium for debate, but I think it's a bit of a leap Jack, that disagreeing with Me.Yau's actions somehow equates to hoping for HongKong's demise.

That beIng said, while I wish that Hong Kong remains a free, open society, with fair justice and continuing to be a beacon of commerce, the reality is that much will probably change before 2047. Change is inevitable. Not only do we not know what will happen to HK by then, we also don't know how much China will change by then also. It was once inconceivable that China would prosper as much as it has since the height of authoritarian fears of 1989.

I'm not saying that things will be better or worse. I'm just saying that change is inevitable. Fact remains that if China does stick to the agreement, the agreement does have an expiration date. And unless someone can actually convince the Central government that extending the agreement, or givingHong Kong its independence is in CChina's best interest, I doubt that a major course correction will happen. Why? Simple. Independence of Hong Kong doesn't benefit China in any way.

Y'all want independence....? Convince the Central government that there are more pros than cons ofgranting HK independence.
