Went to New Makati  bar in wan chai last Sunday around 4 pm Went upstairs and was told that there is an entrance fee of 200 for men and 140 for gals. ( and this includes 1 free drink ).

Wondering if I was asked to pay because:
1. looking at my face, they understood that I was a first timer
2. could it be the skin color ?

Its been said that many philipina DH hangout there on Sunday afternoon. What makes me suspicious is,  are maids really going to pay $140 just to get into new makati ?

After that, went to Escape .  No entrance fee there . The music was nice but I could not see the scene which bros wander and tonytor have described in other posts. ( not questioning senior bros, juast my observation    ). There were many girls there but they were all busy dancing and there were a few bros sipping beer or playing with their iphones. The scene did not look "happening" at all.

I tried to make eye contact etc but no luck .    Finally, got frustated, finished my beer and left. Was wondering why do I really need to try so hard when I am paying ? (no disrespect for the girls, but afterall, should it not be different from civvie bars ?

Indians, Chinese generally will attract an entrance fee. Many reasons have been given but ultimately, its discrimination.

Posts mention rocking up at those places after 10pm otherwise its pretty deadtthere. Seems like that was your experience.

yeah .. i guess 4/5pm on sunday is not a good time for escape. mostly, girls come there to have a nice time  before heading back home.

I am white, and have never been asked to pay a charge in any Wanchai bars I have been in, But understand that colour does make a difference!

If you want to be noticed you have to stand out.  Dance.  Or (for crying out loud) go TALK to someone!!

On Sunday at this time these bars are not full of Pro working gals, they are full of DH's on their day off looking to party and maybe get a nice cash bonus.  So you DO have to put some work in.   Many will not come to you - you have to ("gasp") go talk to them.  They are not on a short term visa and in no rush to bang everyone they can to make a fast buck.  Some do, of course, but many, many are too shy or reserved to be outwardly "working".  They will often be super friendly if you approach them, however, as they are indeed there to party.  Buy her a drink, get her on the dance floor, have some fun..., then off to a hotel.  

I could start the sexiest cleaning service ever with the amount of hot DHs I have in my rolodex from Makati!

... even more ... the DHs, especially the Filipinas (i.e. New Makati's target demographic) actually need to keep up a pretence of being "good girls" ... up to the extent of talking with each other about their boyfriends "just talking together" etc. as a matter of routine etiquette ...

I once had a girl overnight, who went to the street market the next morning to buy a new T-shirt, just so her friends wouldn't see her wearing the same clothes two days running!  Blew my inexperienced mind at the time - not the sort of thing a guy would notice!!  But once you get to know the culture it makes sense: news travels faster on the DH network than a tweet on twitter.

But that does mean you have to give her face, and make the first moves when in public.

True indeed.  And THEY want to be discreet outside aswell as you walk to the hotel.  It makes it all funner!  They are not hard-core Pros.  They are lonely gals away from home hoping for some fun with a nice guy - and maybe a romp and cash bonus at the end.  But you do have to have some "game" with many of them - just like gals anywhere.  You can't just sit at the bar and expect the hot DH's to quickly surround you.

I can understand that some may be fearful of potential undercover police officers, but some of us are foreign CBC, ABC and BBC who just want some Filipina, Thai, Indo and Viet fun as well!

I'm a honkey....er white guy... and haven't ever paid at New Makati.  Agreed it's just prejudiced attitude.

It is sooo freaking easy to get a semi-pro at Wanchai bars it oughta be a crime... but I'm glad it's not

Here's my technique:

- Dumb pick up line... "haven't I seen you in here before?"
- "May I buy you a drink"
- "Want to dance"
- "Let's get out of here"

I used a have a friend who worked the doors at Neptunes II - he once said to me it was because a lot of Chinese guys will go in and just not buy drinks.

Similar to where I live in Hong Kong - if a big sports event is on, they will charge an entrance fee to everyone but give them it back in drinks. Simply because a lot of Chinese will go in and sit and drinks water lol therefore not spending any money, I have seen this happen a few times.

I had a manager tell me exactly the same thing.  They cover-charge a few nationalities - indian, chinese, african - saying many enter, hang out, grab a girl and leave.  No girl-drinks, and often not even a single drink for themselves.  Losing a girl to a Bro who spent nothing in the bar is a loss for them - and really pisses them off.   

Ya gotta play the game, and the bar needs its cut to stay in business.  They provide the entertainment and a safe-haven for the girls to work, they deserve some patronage.  Drinks are their only revenue stream.

So, the summary is :
1. cover charge "will" be there for ppl who are not caucasian. If the board shows some charge for ladies as well... its just for you to save face.They are being kind by making you feel that its for everyone, so  just suck it up and pay

2.  4 pm for escape is definitely not a good time.

3. most importantly... set your expectations right ...in general, girls will expect you to approach them and then you take it forward from there. inspite of these bars being well known pickup joints, there is a possibility of not getting a girl even if you are willing to pay. Be prepared for that. This is something I was not aware of.

Anyways, this makes me well prepared incase I try again ( though there is less probability given the fact that "You don't do the bar-scene to economize on either money or time"   )

Your Point 3 only refers to Sunday afternoons when the bars are full of DHs, not WGs.

Go to Neptune or Escape or Makati after 11pm and you'll have to fight off the working girls. Truly.  So if you're a bit shy to be that forward yourself, just go later at nite.  They'll come to you.

Just to reassure those who dislike racism: even Caucasians get hit for a cover charge at popular places, especially when they're at their busiest

Pretty much the ONLY way I know to avoid a cover charge is to be a regular.  Show up every week for a month at off-peak times, and visibly drop a load of cash each visit, you'll get in free at peak times too.  

Business is business.
