Sweat Rash

I had sweat rash last week due to the heat and humidity.  The rashes are over now.  However, the doctor said the patches will not fade away entirely for a few more months.  I imagine they would scare the hell out of the girls.  My summer in Hong Kong is ruined.  Any one has any suggestion for a remedy for such a situation ???

Wear looser clothes that is not tight to your body and preferably not cotton as it absorbs more sweat. Wear clothes that are more breatheable. Should help to go away faster. Also try to keep dry. Cold showers help too.

Rinse often with ice cold water (with ice), then dry with clean towel.  Do not scratch.

The ice water is to get rid of the itch and the rash usually only clears when it's in a dry environment, not a humid one.

Another is to expose it to sunlight, or use creams.  Don't really advise either one unless it's necessary.

A lot of bad advice here guys!

DO NOT USE VASELINE!  Never, never do that on a heat rash!  Vaseline traps the sweat in the skin, and what you want to do is get that sweat out.  Also DO NOT EXPOSE TO SUNLIGHT! Doing so can cause permanent scarring.

Heat rash is caused by sweat getting trapped under an outer layer of skin.  And it doesn't take a couple of months to go away.  You can clear it up in a couple of days if you're diligent.

1.  Stay in air conditioned spaces.  Keep it as cold and dry as you can manage, particularly when you're sleeping.  22C or colder.

2.  If you have to go outside, rinse whatever skin you can get to frequently.  You want to keep your skin clean and clear of sweat.

Pretty simple, just don't deviate from this, even for an hour, and your rash will be gone very quickly.

I didn't do it.  Really I didn't.

Great community !  Thank you all for the advices.  A/C
and cool showers really help.  Unfortunately, the doctor
said the darken skin of the affected area will not fade away
for a few months       Would the girls mind ?  How would
you explain ?

I was unprepared for the heat and humidity of HK summer.
I wonder if I can still play sports, or should I stay away from
any sweat-producing activity for a while ?

vaseline is your only option once you've broken skin and still wanna walk around outside. obviously prevention is the best method so once it clears up jsut start using baby powder.

The rash is localized to areas under and between my breasts.  Walking around outside is not a problem.   Just do not want to scare the girls.   Will use baby powder once the rash clears up.   Thank you for the suggestion.

Hey bro I have the same thing. I got it in UK and it has been coming & going for a while now. HK brings it out more so I decided to go to the doc's & get it checked.

The doctor gave me to (forgive my spelling) Anti Histamine tablets and some cream. It has totally gone, although scratching it feels bloody good at the time! It kills later. I am not sure what the cream is she gave me but it has worked a treat. If I was you I would get a second opinion!

antihistamine creams will help with a heat rash, but it's just a symptomatic treatment, it doesn't help the underlying cause which is heat and humidity making the excess sweat get trapped under the last layer of skin.

Putting vaseline on the rash only makes it worse by trapping all that excess moisture.

You can use antihistamines and steroids, but it's just as effective to stay cool and dry, and wash the affected area as often as possible with cool water.

Vaseline and baby powder sounds like a bad combination.  I've tried the powder stuff before and it made me twice as itchy and red, so from my own experience I'd have to say that isn't the way forward.

Re TheButler's advice about sunlight, that could be true I guess.  Is my other advice sound though?

Yep, frequent washing with cool water is very good.  Whether cool, cold, or with ice is about bringing down body temperature, so if you're not that overheated cool water will do fine.

The problem you're trying to solve is excessive perspiration trapped in the skin, so the rinsing and cooling is great for that, and not getting hot and humid in the first place is even better.

I said vaseline AND baby powder (together)!  The baby powder experience was only for myself but I guess most people don't have that problem.  The purpose of baby powder is to keep their area dry, which should counteract all rashes.

sirtiger also has a point - a dermatologist is the correct expert to consult if it's a serious rash.

Do NOT use steroids. Beyond the fact that steroids will bring you more skin problems than it will solves, using steroids for skin minor issues is a nonsense (if we are talking about AAS here)

Again, thank you all for the discussion and suggestions.  I am learning.

I did go see a dermatologist.  The cream he gave me are very helpful.  I think my mistake was putting on ointment when the rash started.  That made the condition worse quickly.  Applying ointment is a big nono if anyone ever gets sweat rash.

Shower regulary, use some talcum powder and go Commando until all is clear.  Oh, and don't scratch the itch in public - puts the girls and your colleagues off.  But, if they give you any problems make an announcement that your rash is healing up nicely and should be better by the time of the next Staff Christmas Party

Use Jojoba cream, it is best of all, nothing clears up a rash faster.
