New MacBook Air

Has everyone seen the MacBook Air?
I have always think of buy an Ipad but the main blocking point was that I needed my computer to synchronize the contents.
Difficult to make a choice.

Are Ipad or MacBook Air?

I've seen it, played with it and its not worth the price for what it is.

What content do you want to synch? If you have a Macbook Air then there is no need to synch, right?

Why not buy both if you can't make a decision

My opinion, iPads are useless unless you're a big e-book reader. They're pretty much the same as the iPhone but WITHOUT the phone capabilities!

MacBook Air is nice and sleek but I personally would spend a little more and get the MacBook Pro. The only thing that the Air has over the Pro is that its' much lighter. If you're looking to sync your iphone or other gadgets.. def go for a Pro or an Air.. you can't sync with the iPad.

In fact, I mean that the ipad need to be sync when the MacBook Air don't need.
But on the same time ipad is full screen multi touch.

So bad that Apple won't combine the 2 because it will kill the ipad's business.

I have seen that Lenovo was planning to launch a new thin computer, the U260
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SFNaYGhqG0&feature=channel

I am thinking of getting the MacBook Air because the apple OS is better but on the same time I would like see what the competitor will propose.
I think I will wait to see the price of the other brand computer.

For the MacBook Pro, I have thought about it before the announcement of the MacBook Air but the fact that the size and weight  are so impressive on the MacBook Air, it makes me want to get one.
Plus price  is more accessible compare with the old version, HK$ 7,588.

Mac just put out new update 4.2 for the ipad that supposedly adds 100 new features. Rumour also has it that they'll be releasing a new version of the ipad in April. Might want to hold off and see what's on offer before writing it off.

The Air is a great traveling machine, nice and light.  If you need lots of ports or a huge hard drive then it's not for you, butit is super light and that's its best feature.  You can bring a laptop without breaking your back.

If I just needed a reader (books, newspapers and journals) and email then I would just travel with an iPad.  Maybe with a wireless keyboard.  I know people like to bitch that you can read just as well on a laptop or iPhone but it's just not true.  TheiPad is just the write form factor to make reading a newspaper on a machine an enjoyable experience again; not as good asreal paper, but light years ahead of the standard PC display.

I didn't do it.  Really I didn't.

good info to hear that a new ipad is coming out.  alot of people have stayed on the sidelines waiting for a new version.  this is one of those occassions though where noone who has the IPAd really has voiced any complaints about it.  now with the printing feature it even better.  so maybe they soup up the speed or something but noone is complaining about that.  so what will the new IPAD have in it

The new version of iPad will have a camera function and will be slimmer then what is currently available.  Still, it is an iPhone without the phone but you can't put it in your pocket.

Has anyone tried the new Samsung Galaxy Pad? I've seen it recently in Singapore and it's pretty slick and being promoted to death by both Singapore Telecom and StarHub. Haven't seen that kind of enthusiastic reception in HK or is there?

It's just released in HK but pretty pricey - HK$5k - for what it is and compared with the iPad. However, you use the tab as a phone but its a tad big, despite being smaller than the ipad, it cant fit into your pocket There's already a second generation galaxy tab in the works which is putting some people off.

If people subscribe HK Broadband's 100M service (24 months contract), than they will give out Samsung Galaxy Pad free.

I went through HK duty free at the airport this afternoon and they had sold out of the Galaxy.  Looks like someone likes them.  I don't know too much about them so no comment here regarding if they are better than an iPad.

sounds like the right plan for the new comers is to subsidize the samsung equipment and charge a for the plan.  that will get it into peoples hands to see if it competes with the ipad.  other than something like that, in general people flock to the tried and true.  not that ipad has been around for so long, but if thats the market leader why would anyone trade down, unless there is a really decent price break.

Orders for the Samsung Galaxy in the UK were reported to be really high, suprising since the price is around the same as iPad. I've not actually seen that much about them over here, admittedly not been looking though.

Don't think it'll have any effect on iPad's dominance though

Is the samsung galaxy based upon the android operating system.  It seems they mayover time be able to knock apple out given googles strength.  If it turns out that google can create a real link between android and it's control of the web then apple may be like blackberry is now.  Second or third place.

Does anybody know the retail price in HK for this McBook Air. Entry Level one?
It's as big as the ipad, but it's a real computer. I'm tempted... and coming to HK next week.
Many thanks.

I have had a chance to play around with a macbook air.
In general, the smaller/thinner the laptop; the slower it is
Just think of netbooks as an example

The air runs pretty well for it's size though.

Depends on what you are doing with it. If it's just browsing the net/checking e-mail... you can use the air.
If you need to run a large program i would definately run the macbook pro.
