World Cup 2010 - Chewing The Fat (Feel free to talk shit!!)

TOPIC: Will any Asian teams get to the quarter final stage of World Cup?

Do you think any Asian teams can get to the quarter final stage of World Cup?

South Korea - possibly
North Korea - less likely
Japan - less likely

South Korea did pretty well in the qualifying, so they do have a better chance over the other Asian countries. Most people say the only way China will get into the world cup is if China hosts the world cup.

This is one of the easy ways for China to qualify to attend the World Cup.
At least China have qualified once.
When will Hong Kong qualify to attend the World Cup?

South Korea maybe if they can come in second place behind Argentina in group B.

Japan's going to have a tough time battling for second with Denmark and Cameroon. As Netherlands will most likely top group E.

North Korea unless they pull off the upset of the century is highly unlikely to advance in group G as they are up against top countries such as Brazil, Portugal and Ivory Coast.

How about Australia?  They'll part of the Asia Qualifiers, so they'll part of Asia too, right?

As for Australia, they'll probably draw or lose against Germany, but should beat Serbia and win or lose against Ghana.  Should make it to the second round either first or second in their pool, but not much further than that I'm afraid - should do much better than South Africa or New Zealnd which is good (our rugby rivals ).

North Korea playing was also news to me.  With so many good European teams missing out, it seems a bit perplexing. Not really the best of the best.

South Korea are an outside chance, North Korea have buckleys, Japan somewhere between the two...but much closer to NK.

You have high hopes for Australia You will be battling with Serbia for second place as Germany should top the group comfortably. Ghana are a weaken with the loss of Essien but still have enough quality to compete for round two.

The world cup qualifying was restructured because there were too many European teams at the World Cup since there were complaints. So other continents got more entrants to the World Cup. It's the creme de la creme going to the World Cup from Europe since it was harder to qualify.

North Korea are an unknown quality but have a few decent players. However, they made a boob by picking two goalkeepers with the third being an outfield player. FIFA said each squad must have three goalkeepers, so the third goalkeeper place, which is an outfield player, can only play as a goalkeeper

Uruguay should as least draw with France!

Uruguay should as least get a draw with France based on France recent form.
In addition, France lose 0:1 to China recently.
Also, I have no confident in France manager.

England central defence problem!

I am a bit worry about England defence after Rio Ferdinand injury.
John Terry is the definite choice but who is the best partner to play with him?
Ledley King?
Matthew Upson?
Michael Dawson?
Jamie Carragher?

North Korea select only TWO goalkeepers?
It's a bit strange and I am quite surprise about this lineup.

I see Australia as a dark horse that might cause a few upsets. They did really well up against italy in 06' only narrowly losing 1 goal in the closing minutes of full time. Now that Cahill is back from injury, should be an interesting group to watch.

Australians usually rise to the challenge when they put on the green and gold (or canary yellow in this instance).  That said, I won't be making any side bet.

Italy cheated in that game by diving, which is still a sore point.  I watched it at a pub on that night, and like everyone else there, I was completely gutted (this coming from a guy who doesn't watch soccer, except the world cup).

Chinese Reporter Robbed, Petty theft fact of life averaging 50 murders a day.

It seems like South Africa is more dangerous than China.

With "An estimated 5.7 of 48 million South Africans are HIV positive" It's about 11.8% with HIV!!  I don't know about you but the pecentages are too high for mongering.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - Three Greek World Cup players had money stolen from their hotel rooms and Chinese journalists were robbed at gunpoint, officials said on Thursday, stoking concerns a day before the sports spectacular starts.

The separate incidents in the crime-plagued host country follow the armed robbery of Spanish and Portuguese journalists at a lodge north of Johannesburg on Wednesday.

South Africa, which has spent heavily on security, has been hoping the World Cup would boost its tourism sector and provide a jolt of pride for the continent but experts have said persistent reports of crime could undermine those aspirations

The three Chinese journalists has been in the country for a few hours and were on their way to the main venue for the Cup in Soccer City on the edge of Soweto, a sprawling township outside of Johannesburg, the local paper Beeld reported citing various sources.

They stopped on the side of the road when gunmen approached and stole equipment from their vehicle, it said.

Chinese embassy officials confirmed the robbery but offered few details. South Africa police said the incident has not been officially reported and were looking into the case.

Petty theft is a fact of life in South Africa, a country of that averages 50 murders a day.

South Africa is largely fucked. People accept being threatened and robbed on a daily basis like we might accept being cut off in traffic.
