5000 US Sailors in Hong Kong - Now what?

The news today (Wednesday 17 February) says 5 US warships have just docked in Hong Kong harbour. While political concerns may be focused on strained US relations withy China regarding Obama's planned meeting with the Dalai Lama, my concerns are more on the impact of 5000 crew-cut Yee-Haa's roaming the streets of HK with dollars to burn and more specifically on the "141" market. I am booked to come to HK in 2 weeks time and fear that this vulgar Tsunami may have left havoc in its wake.

What experience do we have of this?
How long do they stay for?
Does anyone have any way of telling if it is a brief stopover or extended stay?
How would clubs such as Neptune be affected?
How is the general 141 business affected?
Which areas are typically most affected?

Well when your staring at steel walls all day surrounded by men.  I sure they all want of piece of the booty real fast.  141 should make good business with most of them if they can handle oversized American pieces, a majority of them probably need either really loose females, or someone really experienced.

Talking about economic stimulus.  These sailors can really boost the local economy.  I'm sure there's more than 50,000 WGs/HG/Sauna girls/KTV girls in HK.  They should all pay tax.  SO there you have it...a great way to stimulate your local economy.  Now, only if America (or the Obama administration) can be as progressive as HK.

As an ABC, I would just like to say GOD BLESS MY SERVICEMEN!  You might disagree with the U.S. politics, but these are young men who are patriots and they deserve ass as much as the next guy (as long as they don't find DG because that is my birthright as a yellow man).

I never understood U.S. sailors.  So, U.S. navy can just land in any country they want.  When's the last time you hear China or Russia's navy ships land in NYC and have the sailors roam around Manhattan.  If U.S. does it to other sovergn nations, then other countries should be able to land in U.S. freely.

They do - every summer they have fleet week in NYC and several navies send ships and the sailors are out and about in the city.

I don't think you know what you're talking about ...any navy needs to have permission to
visit another country, and with HK, they needed permission from the central Chinese government - which
obviously was given !

How many of the 5000 are female sailors?  Maybe there is a chance for our HK bro's to show them a good time whilst they are here :-)

I think most of them like girls so I don't think there is a chance of that happening.  (I'm just kidding)

Hey thanks for clarifying that for me.  It just seems that other countries seem to "grant" the U.S. navy more opportunities to land in their countires than U.S. grant other countires.  Maybe it's just my observation.

stayed clear of this particular visit ... but in the past Wanchai tends to get overrun ... can be fun to watch.

Here's some interesting math: how much do you think each serviceman will spend in his 24 hours of freedom?  US$400 maybe?  probably more after 7 months tax free back pay with bonuses and trimmings ... but let's just take that as a conservative average ... multiply by 5000.

A cool US$2m injected into the local economy in the space of a "working week" ... nice ... there's a good chance that means Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Gucci will be celebrating next week

It is not just 5000 sailors spending money in HK.  Because these sailors are out in sea for long stretches of time, they don't get many chances to come ashore, plus they miss their families.

Often you will see their g/fs, b/fs, spouses, friends and family members waiting for them as they get off their boats onto HK shore.  So the financial impact of the 5000 sailors plus their friends and family members is alot of money.

The panic is over as my frantic research has led me to the information that they will only be docked for 4 days.

In terms of protocol, a foreign warship's commander has to ask permission to come into port and this has to be granted by no less than the Minister of Foreign Affairs (or Chinese equivalent thereof).

My 2 cents:

The visitors will most likely be confined to and skew the market in Wanchai at the various girly bars and free lancer joints.

Those of you who, like me, partake in 141s and brothels in  Kowloon will probably not be affected. Most of the sailors and the marines accompanying them are not so adventurous and have limited language skills and will not venture into local places, although I understand are some ABCs on board who may do so if they have the language skills.

In addition there are frequently places which are designated "off limits" like saunas, and any prudent sailor will not break the rules.
