cell phone wristwatch

someone was asking me to pick up one in HK or China when I'm out there next month.  I have no idea what's out there.  Anything good and popular?  Looking for GSM, Bluetooth, camera and in a sports band.

LG has come out with a cellphone watch for a few months already.  There are also alot of Chinese branded cellphone watches.  Best place to check out all the new models is Apliu Street in Shamshuipo then go to Fortress or Broadway to buy because these shops are reputable.

That one is the latest thing for now. Of course Microsoft has its own Courier coming up and Apple will have the next gen of its gadgets.

Back to the cell phone wristwatch, this is also the first I have heard of it, but it looks like there is a developed market for it already from looking at google search results.

the LG model is apparently excellent. A friend of mind bought one in December. He wanted GENUINE so he went to Fortress (stores all over HK) and he paid around HK$5,900 approx which was still cheaper than he could get at home by around 25%.

just looked at some of the LG pics online...

That screen is TINY!

How usable is it?
Can't imagine it having good battery life...

And how would you write sms's with it? Voice recognition?

Why not just search for "gsm watch" on Ebay?

LOL. nah Bro... you mean Dick Tracy.

BTW, for what it's worth re Star Trek, no doubt Kirk would have made an A-Class Mongerer.

would need bluetooth so you have can have a handset, otherwise holding your wrist to you mouth won't be so convenient

And expanding on that logic, if you have a bluetooth headset, why bother with the wristwatch, when a "handheld" cellphone with a bluetooth earpiece can do the same thing.

There must be something great about it, that I just don't see... besides the geek factor...

But if I really wanted to go geek, I would get one of those wearable computers....

I was thinking the same thing after seeing that Dick Tracy pic.

Talking about inconvenient, how about the Octopus watches?  I bought one for somebody, but all those Octopus swiping devices are meant to be swiped with the right hand.  (watches are normally worn on the left as the right is used for other things - if right-handed)

here's the thing - phones are most often lost when they are left somewhere, especially if you don't have a shirt pocket or phone holster.  That's a big selling point for a cell phone watch.  Also, for women, and for men too, a lot of times the phones are left on vibrate, like say after a meeting, and can't be heard/felt when in a purse/fanny pack.

I do love my iPhone though...not giving that up anytime soon.

are these cell phone wristwatches as good as the standard ones ie meaning do they have clear signals and does not drop calls when you talk. Seems like it will be too small to have any meaninngful features. The only good thing is that you wont lose it other than that why else would someone get it over the real thing

Also, if it's not waterproof, it may be useless for those who go swimming a lot and like to wear a watch to keep track of the time.
