Texas Hold'em Poker

I've noticed several bro's are playing poker, so i think why not make a topic about poker?
After Chris Moneymaker won the WSOP in 2003 there was the "moneymaker effect", poker begun to rise, but since im from europe, we didnt't got boomed yet.
I started to know this new game when my friends were playing it and i was asked to join, this was right after Joe Hachem won the bracelet. I got really interested in this game and right now it is my income for 2 years allready... i play poker for living at the moment.
I play hkdollarwise 10/25 25/50 50/50 50/100  and had a few 100/200 sessions, but those were backed...

so what about you guys?

I try not to gamble much.  I am what you call an Even Steven type of guy, I rarely lose but I rarely win big.  Whatever I am playing, I can bet lets say 50 bucks, I can win 20 hands straight.  If I put down 500, I am guaranteed to lose 20 hands straight.  So there is no real point in gambling for me, that is my luck.  Although I do visit Atlantic City during the summer and end up winning the hotel bill and a great dinner for my wife and I.  I think 9 out of the last 10 times I've gone to Atlantic City with the wife, I have won between 400-600 bucks each time.  The one time I lost was when I won 120 bucks and my wife lost 200 in the slots, so I had to tell her I won 300 so that she wouldn't feel bad about losing.  To me, gambling is in the Chinese blood, but I've never actually met anyone who actual did well gambling.

thats true, in poker you can use stats to your advantage.

but the river, turn and the turn have produced some sick things over the years from my experience

well... thats what makes poker a skill game, on every street there might be a change,
a dominated hand can be the winning hand on the river, or pure by a bluff...

frigging ESPN... i blame them.. got me into this stupid poker craze and now i can't stop. Been all over the place.. pokerstars, fulltilt, partypoker... got lucky once and won a freeroll for $3k US. Don't know what happened just got hand after hand. It was awesome feeling to win like that. There was no prize for second, so I when a bit crazy with hand selections and got frigging lucky.
Definity will play a Live WSOP event one day in my life. Probably for $1-2k buyin.

Really don't like the local casino's tournys. Blinds go up too quick, becomes a bit of pot luck in the end. Poker shouldn't be just about luck. Luck plays a huge factor, but definitly need some good reads and bluffs.

Frigging Love the game!

Yeah, I've played a few of the daily tourneys in Vegas.... with the USD$50 buy-ins....
The blinds would go up twice within one round....
after about 2 rounds, the big blind was about 1/4 my chips (I didn't have any decent hands yet, so I had most of my chips)

Afterwards, I figured in those tourneys, that it's all about picking a hand, and going all-in very early....

If I get a chance to play, I stick with normal tables now.

I did enjoy tourneys in online poker though.  (but I haven't played online since PartyPoker banned Philippine IP addresses back in 2005)

Okay Finn, I don't think anyone else has asked. How much are you making? And do you win regularly?  Also, are you renting something in Macau or HK?  This thread has got my curiosity up now.

its not about fish.. its more about better than most players on your table...
my definition of fish = someone who stack people off with top pair, not too many of them nowadays...

lol thanks, i prefer "pokerplayer" a lot more though... many people says i am a gambler, but i dont like that word... if it was gamble.. there would be more than just 1 month in the red zone during the last 3 years..
hope to be back around february, and get more reports!! Be King Goose competitor for a few weeks!

I was playing for almost 3 weeks back in Dec 2009 - Jan 2010.

Very soft tables during the Christmas and New Year season, it was quite shocking to see.

I was primarily playing the 10/20 tables in Grand Lisboa, but they were so soft that it was more profitable sitting there than to move to the 20/40 and 50/100 in the Wynn.

I took about 15-28k HKD / day during my trip, but I did put in a lot of hours a day.  Even the tournaments were quite soft, I placed in more than half of those I entered.

If you hang around the scene long enough, you'll see lots of regulars in Macau playing poker everyday.  Some that I met moved from Korea, Philippines, and Japan just to play poker as a liviing.  I think they make a decent living from the looks of it.

What do you mean by "soft"? passive nits?
when i play in GL (thats why i almost never play there), the table is filled up with super tight nits who doesnt put any money in the pot... they fold to any 3bet.

i dont think a 10/20 GL game can ever be more profitable than a 25/50 50/100 in Wynn, only reason is you cant beat those games..

whats 15-28k /day ??  how many days have u played?

i am a pure cashgamer and a totall tourney donkey but even i can tell the tournaments has a soft field filled up with bad players, but the pricepool doesnt make it any interesting for me to participate.. (im talking about those weekly low buy in tourneys)...

its for sure not hard to grind out good money in macau

you guys making that much money there, why even bother going back home? why dont you just move there and play poker full time as a job. If I was even half decent at poker and can make $5K per day, I would pack my shit and fly there asap. 15-28K/ day, that's damn good money in any profession
