Romance and Passion not main reasons women have sex

FOR every woman expecting the earth to move, it would seem there are two with more practical motives.

From relieving boredom, to keeping the peace in a relationship or even curing a headache=, the reasons for succumbing to the advances of the opposite sex are many and varied.

Romance and passion, it has to be said, comes rather low down the list, according to a new book.

One woman even admitted to having sex just so her husband would put the rubbish out.

"Research has shown that most men find most women at least somewhat sexually attractive, whereas most women do not find most men sexually attractive at all," conclude the authors, both psychology professors at the University of Texas.

Having apparently discounted physical attraction, the 1000 women interviewed by Prof Meston gave a huge range of reasons for sleeping with a man.

One said she did it for a spiritual experience, proclaiming: "It's the closest thing to God."

But in most cases the explanations were far more mundane, with 84 per cent admitting to having sex just to ensure a quiet life or to bargain-for household chores.

One woman explained: "I have sex to relieve the boredom - because it's easier than fighting. Plus it gives me something to do."

For others, it provides an unlikely cure for a migraine or stress headache.

While it may not come as welcome news, some women have sex out of sympathy, with one admitting: "I slept with a couple of guys because I felt sorry for them."

But most have selfish motives, with financial or material rewards a major factor behind many sexual encounters.

In one survey of students carried out by the researchers, nearly one in 10 women admitted to "having sex for presents". Other reasons included: "he bought me a nice dinner", "he spent a lot of money on me early on" and "he showed me he had an extravagant lifestyle". And rather than love or romance, for many women sex is just about fun.

Six in 10 university students in one survey said they regularly slept with a male friend who was not their boyfriend.

One, who was at a different college from her boyfriend, explained it was because "life is too damn short to be waiting four years to have sex again".

Others confessed they did it to improve their sexual performance, with one explaining: "I have had sex with my boyfriend to make my sexual skills better."

The research concluded, perhaps predictably, that women are attracted to tall men with a deep voice, who smell good.

A symmetrical body also helps, since it is a genetic indicator of health and suggests he will give his lover strong children.

However, those who don't live up to this ideal can take some comfort. Their lower level of testosterone may win over the ladies too, because it suggests they are less likely to run off with another woman.

i agree on the headache reason.  Sometimes when I want to show my SO how much I care for her when she has her period, I have sex with her just so she can enjoy the endorphins (pain-killing) effect from the orgasms.  Not many guys can ignore the discharge from a girl's period to have sex with a girl at that time.  It is healthier this way for the girl because too many over the counter painkillers are bad for the kidney and liver.

little do they know i carry around a jar of testosterone, same way they carry around tubes of lubricant.

Not at all surprising, when you see the % of women who never achieve orgasm.  Plus the fact that there's no biological imperative for them to ejaculate so they can go months and even years without.  

Who cares if they don't have sex for romance or passion?  We just want them to have sex - they can choose whatever reason suits them at the time.

The survey is probably based on western women, Asian women tend to have sex mostly to attract men and financial gains.

Either you guys are only screwing WGs - in which case, yah they almost never climax, but who cares - or your technique needs work. I've never had a GF out here in Asia that didn't cum, and often more than once. If anything, women are physiologically capable of experiencing more intense sexual pleasure than men: not only can they have multiple orgasms, their orgasms are longer and more intense than ours.

This same article was also covered by a Brisbane newspaper and drew some interesting replies, including one man who gae his reason for having sex with his wife.  Comments included to show loyalty and to give her one less reason to nag.  No matter the gender, we have our reasons.

I'm not disputing your orgasm-giving ability, but the first thing that comes to mind is that restaurant scene in When Harry Met Sally - a lot of them are very good at faking it (although Meg Ryan was a little over the top)

I always read reports of brothers giving WG's multiple orgasms and I think to myself, is it even possible considering they have sex 6-8 times a day. I'm always under the impression now that WG's just fake their orgasms too.

i met this massage girl who is not divorced from her husband...according to her, she never loved her husband or found him attractive...the reason she married him was b/c he had a house.  it was strictly a financial reason.  the guy was that well off, but better then others....so yes beware of woman's motives!

isn't that about 90% of all women who wind up marrying a guy who has some money?  I'm sure to some extent that that's my my SO married me.

How about another reason:  To reproduce because a female's time frame to have a kid is limited.  The older they get, the more problems the kid will have later on in life.  A female really should not have kids after their late 30s.  That should be a very good reason to have sex.

I'm sure there are women on there who have sex simply because they like it too....

We're not talking about WGs here but GFs. Nobody expects a WG to orgasm, and when they say they do, take it with a large grain of salt. But if your GFs aren't cuming, you need to learn how to give women what they need to climax. I've never met a girl you couldn't DATY to orgasm, and I've never had a GF out here in Asia - i.e. in the last 30 years -who didn't love fucking.

It really surprises me that there are so many guys in this thread who seem to think women don't particularly like sex.
