During my last trip to HK/Macau, i noticed this KEE WAH Bakery and as far as i'm concern, this was the only bakery i encountered and remembered as i strolled the streets, the malls and even at the airport.

it's definitely not the only bakery.

not sure abt being the best or not.
i only go to KeeWah to buy pineapple tarts as gifts for non-local people.
Kee-wah's stuff has nice packaging, represents HK, and is affordable.
very good for gifts.

when i visited Macau 3 weeks ago, i only bought delicacies from koikei.
those peanut candies are delicious.

how abt sharing your experience on other Macau "delicacies"?

I bought those peanut candies, almond cakes, egg rolls and mooncakes from koikei at the venetian.

There's also KEE WAH at the venetian, but i didnt took time to look.

i only got interested in Kee Wah when i watched the movie I LOVE HONG KONG.
There was a scene of Eric Tsang distributing moon cakes to all his neighbors in that movie in celebration of the Mid Autumn Festival.

That really sparked me up that i missed buying from them when i was in HK.

actually i havent seen any of its commercial.
i'm not from Hong Kong and i just notice that bakery when i was at the Venetian, at Tsim sha tsui and at the airport.
i watched I LOVE HONG KONG via dvd so it came to my mind to ask if its the best in Hong Kong or are there any other bakery worth trying its products so i can check them out during my next visit come Dec..

Kee Wah has good marketing in HK, and having Eric Tsang pitching their product only made them that much stronger.  Personally, I think most of their product is overhyped, and not very good compared to the Macau bakeries.  There are a few items worth trying though, such as the aforementioned pineapple bread products and the wife cakes are passable.

Koi Kei is the most marketed and super popular in Macau.  They are literally everywhere, and their products are pretty good and they do come up with a lot of innovative products on a consistent basis.  I think most tourists will drop by at least one of their shops on every visit. The downside of course, is that they are pretty expensive as they know they can command a super premium price.  You can't really go wrong here, but you have to expect to pay a hefty premium.

My personal choice is Choi Heung Yuen.  You'll see a lot of these shops around.  Comparable in quality to Koi Kei, and I would say their egg rolls are way better than Koi Kei.  You'll also be paying 65% of the cost if not less on a lot of their products.  There is one also in the Venetian if convenience is important.

Of course, in all cases pertaining to bakeries, YMMV.  Everybody has different tastes, so you're best to stop in all bakeries you encounter and just try something, whatever their speciality is.  I can tell you that if you ask many local Macanese what are the best bakeries, you'll get a wry smile if you insist it's Koi Kei and Lord Stows.

These things are definitely based on preference. There's no one bakery that's the best in all aspects. I do prefer KEE WAH over others though.

many Macau taxi drivers claim Hong Kong's KFC portuguese egg tarts are way better than any Macau's local bakeries.

i also bought some crunchy sesame peanut candies from Choi Heung Yuen while i was at the Venetian its 21 HK$ for the 250grams pack while the sesame peanut candies from Koi Kei is priced at 44 HK$ for the 480grams pack.
havin tasted both back here in manila, i prefer those peanut candies from Koi Kei. the almond cookies ar also very delicious. i didnt like much the egg rolls.


i've tasted both. Tried the KFC egg tart for 6 HK$ when i arrived in HK Sept 4 then tried the Macau egg tart for 8 HK$ at the Venetian last Sept 5.
They were served HOT! and i dont find any difference in taste except for its price of course. I got very thirsty after eating those small piece. Both are delicious and how i wish i can bring them here to Manila come Dec.

yes master, i love tasting new delicacies specially those made from other countries.
i'll definitely come back for more now that i'm beginning to have more knowledge on these famous bakeries (plus its products) in HK and Macau.

Kee Wah Pineapple Shortcakes. The best i ever tasted. Too bad i bought only 5 pieces in Hk at 6 hk$ and Macau is selling at 7 MOP Should have bought more in HK as i'm also using the HK$ currency in Macau.

absolutely not, the best portuguese egg tarts in MFM are LORD STOWS in COLOANE

And then the other half of Macau would stone you and swear it's Margaret's.

Personally I've never liked Macanese egg tarts.

The egg tarts are great but i'm refering to the pineapple shortcakes that Kee Wah has to offer and i love them.

yeah, my uncle said the same thing to me when i was in Macau, said that they are the same taste as the one's in KFC.    Never had the KFC one since i don't eat at KFC while in hong kong.    i ate the Koi Kei bakery one.

Err, yeah I'm glad you liked them, I was the one who told you to try them in an earlier post.  Not sure why you're replying that way to my post but whatever lol.

I do also suggest trying some of the less marketed smaller bakeries around Macau, you may find something you like (ie, almond cookies made from a special mixture of lard .. sounds gross but those are better than any commercial bakery)

Yes i was able to try sample taste of those almond cookies when i went to Senado Squrae and checked out the St Paul Ruins.
Many bakeries there offering free taste of their products to the many tourists passing by.
