It seems that all of the copied software sellers have been chased out by the govt, under pressure from MS, US dept of Commerce, RIAA, etc. I have not seen them in action for a few years now and I used to be able to get software from the 168 computer centre on Hennessey Road, or go to Golden Computer Centre and they would direct me to a storefront on a nearby street in the market and stuff was sold in the back.

Anybody know where or even if it is sold? . I suppose that with bittorrent and the like all this burning hard copies and selling them physically is obsolete. getting a physical disk is easier and the software is more likely to work and not be compromised than what can be found on line.

As a back up, anyone can recommend any places in SZ to go?

Shenzhen Commericlal Business Centre at the Luohu border is still thriving with this.  Not out in the open though, you'll have to ask for it explicitly at ome of the places that sells game software or movies.  You probably will be taken to a store where they'll close up the doors.  Pretty exciting I might add....

Is this "Shenzhen Commercial Center" the Railway Mall that is on the right hand side when you come out of Immigration or is it some
other building...

Note, majority of the software sold in SZ are Chinese versions. Make sure you ask if it's a Chinese or English version.

Once they sold software inside Golden Shopping Arcade in Sham Shui Po. Then it stopped. Then it went off site where you pre order the software from a wall. After 1 hour, you picked them up 1/2 a block away.  I went back to the store 2 years ago and it disappeared. I would like to know if there are any other place also PM me...

these places are almost extinct now in HK ...

at most there might be some street vendors that comes out at night (ususlly after 8pm) in places like SSP /north point that might sell a few software along with movies ...

no matter where you get these software from, make sure you have an up to date virus scan and check each and every one of them !

Are you meaning Luohu Commercial Centre which is right outside of the Luohu (Lowu) border crossing or is there another place which you refer to as Shenzhen Commericlal Business Centre?

yeah, Luohu Commercial Centre.  The place where all the Hongkies are afraid of going to because of urban legend about some dude getting his kidney harvested in the bathroom.

all this action reminds me of about 20 years ago I was in one of these mall places in Singapore (lots and lots of little shops inside long hallways) and they were guys running clothing stores selling pirated porno videotapes in the back of their stores. all the other real clothing stores in the mall didn't like the bad reputation they were getting so they hired security guards to intimidate the customers (like me) going there to buy the porno video. A couple of weeks later the video store guys hired thugs to beat up the security guards so that they would not harass the customers.

If you go into Shenzhen, take the MTR there from Lo Wu to Laojie (i believe this station). Once you get out of the MTR station towards Sun Square. Where Pizza Hut, Mcdonalds, etc is... There is a underground mall when you pass through the mall, and there are copied DVD stores there. Just next door is a store that sells software. I saw it before but got too scared to buy the software as I wasn't sure if I'd get checked by Customs. Was cheap, 10-20RMB for the software and had English copies.

I get all my software online from replica MEgaupload sites now... safer for me and etc..
