I don't think it's pushing the envelop, there are many "normal girls" who don't mind meeting new people. In Hong Kong it's more of a challenge because it is not customary to walk up to girls in coffee shops and ask for their numbers, people don't do that and if a foreigner did it to local girls they would find it rude.

I think a good way to meet girls is to participate in daytime activities. Girls love to take classes in HK i.e. drawing, painting, flower arrangement, aerobics, cooking, etc... or do volunteering work during the day. It would be easy to chat them up if you are doing the same thing.

A "sport" that is really popular these days is Dodgeball in HK. A lot of young girls play casually and even quite seriously. They got leagues with tournaments and rankings etc... If you put together a team and go play you'll meet a lot of chicks... you can call your team "The Punters" lol...

I recently came from Europe, and there it's really that simple, you can go and chat a lonely girl easily at a cafe terrasse, getting to bed sometimes even right away.
