Free HK HIV Test Centres (NGOs) & Self-Test Kits.

This write-up is to address the concerns of some bros that HK’s island-wide Social Hygiene clinics ...
  • still use a genital tract swab of the urethra to test for chlamydia and gonorrhea … ouch!

  • may take up to 7-10 days to turn around results (though they say 5-7 days).

Below centres offer Free HIV test(s) without swabs using 2 methods: blood extracted via Rapid (prick finger tip, results in 20-30mins) and/or Conventional (syringe+needle in vein, results in 5-7 days).  Typically, only a positive result with the Rapid method requires a Conventional test to (dis)prove the Rapid method’s result as a false positive.

Please be mindful these centres are NGOs - their primary funding source is the AIDS Trust Fund that may reject their on-going applications for funds. So, kindly donate between $100-$200 (equivalent to cost of a self-test HIV kit) during your visit.

    1. AIDS Concern. Ph: 2394 6677.
Health Service Centre: Flat B, 3/F, Fu Lee Commercial Building, 14-20 Pilkem Street, Jordan Kowloon.
Hours open: Mon-Fri 09:30–22:00 (Lunch & Dinner closed: 12:30–14:00, 18:00–19:00).  Sat 14:00–17:00. Sun 14:00-17:00 (Alternate Sun). Closed on Public Hols.
Book a Free Test.  While their site states free tests are targeted at adults aged below 25, notify them of your age and you will donate.

Also, they sell 2 types of government approved HIV self-testing kits online:  1. Finger-prick blood test (HKD $150). | 2. Oral fluid test (HKD $330).
Detailed website instructions below that particular type of self-test kit on how to use the instruments and interpret the results.

Alternatively, buy a self-test kit at the Health Service Centre and use it on-site under their supervision to make sure you are doing things correctly.  Note: as the window periods for testing are 10 days, 28 days and 90 days from the date of exposure, you’ll need to buy at least 3 kits.

Aids Concern has a HK Map of Testing Service for other NGOs in Central, Lai Chi Kok, Shau Kei Wan & other districts on both the Kowloon & HK side.

    2. Hong Kong AIDs Foundation provides Rapid and Conventional tests. Ph: 2513 0513.
Testing Schedule - Calendar.  Locations, open only Mon-Fri:
  • 5/F, Shaukeiwan Jockey Club Clinic, 8 Chai Wan Road, Shau Kei Wan. Hours open 18:45 – 20:45.
  • Ka Ming Court, 688-690 Castle Peak Road, Lai Chi Kok. Hours open 11:00 – 20:30.
  • Des Voeux Road Central, Central. Hours open 19:45 – 21:45.  Exact location is notified once booking is confirmed.

Free Syphilis and Hepatitis C antibody rapid tests will also be provided at your choice.

    3. While these other NGOs are geared towards HIV testing of gay men, they are likely to accept Heterosexual men. Just inform them when you call for a booking & say you will donate.  We don't judge them, they don't judge us.  Included them for ease of location options. Notably, A-Backup Testing Centre is open on a Sat/Sun/Public Holiday when other centres are closed.
  • A-Backup Testing Centre offers a Rapid test with results in 15 minutes.  Ph:  5405 6631.  Mon-Sun & Public Holidays 15:30-21:30.  Room A1, 11 Floor East South Building, 475-481 Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay HK (Near Causeway Bay Plaza One).
  • Midnight Blue Center (Exit A2, Mongkok Station). Booking: 2493 4555.  Mon-Fri: 10am-1pm, 2-6pm.

    4. Not advertising; but, including as a self-help option. Unsure if this kit is government approved. HK online condom specialist SampsonStore.com sells Doctor-eyes HIV rapid test kit for HKD 238.
  • Simple: Only one drop of blood is enough for the test.
  • Reliable: Qualitatively detect HIV1, HIV2 and HIVO. >99% accuracy.
  • Fast: Result in 15 minutes.
  • Convenient: Additional equipment and stop eating before test is not needed.

To conclude, please understand the de/merits of each method: Comparison of conventional test, rapid test, and self-testing.

Hey, thanks for sharing this useful information.

I want to ask, how often do you bros use the self testing kits without the supervision of a doctor? Is it the norm to use self testing kits or do you bros usually go to a doctor?

Also, I want to bring such self testing kits overseas to test my lady. Any advice on best practices will be greatly appreciated!

Nice option, but I've never tried a self testing kit. Usually I just go to the clinic.. typically easy in and out within 1.5 hrs (mostly just waiting to be called to the rooms).  Then return a month later for results. I guess some people shy away from going to these clinics.. but if you're banging WGs how shy can you really be?
