The Wuhan virus is really deterring me from punting, hw about everyone else?

This current situation is no joke in HK. There are new cases confirmed almost everyday (friend is a doctor here), with that said, who is sitting on the sidelines and not punting while this situation blows over? Or do some of you not gaf and punt anyway?

Not trying to spread FUD but bear in mind a majority of WGs here are from Mainland so you aren't really sure of the risk you expose yourself when you visit them, but don't be naive and think "I'll be OK." Stay safe guys.

Couple of my Telegram accounts saying once girls leave it may be April before new ones arrive. But that's probably a good thing

It’s crazy and I can’t imagine going out right now. Punting already comes with inherent risks, this is doubling down on those risks without any increase of rewards for me. I’m out till this blows over.

I travel regularly from the U.K. to Asia with work and was in China & HK when this all started but certainly won’t be going back there again anytime soon. Am off to Singapore & BKK next week though. Will still punt in Thailand.

I travel 5-6 times a year from the US to China and Hong Kong.  All flights have been cancelled on the big carriers from the USA- A/O to 5/1/20.  So, we can't even get there.  The situation is pushing back production, supply chains and people coming back to to work in the factories.  This is going to be a mess from many months to come.  Stay Safe.  It's not worth it.  Remember, even if the girl you're with is not Chinese, the last person she was with could have had it and passed it on without here even knowing.

I’ve been planning my trip to HK for nearly a year now and I’ve cancelled. It’s a sad day for me. I was thinking of going to another Asian country instead, but I’m too nervous to go anywhere at the moment.

Up to 4 Feb, Hong Kong has 18 confirmed inflections and 1 dead. Most of the cases are imported from the mainland China.

The moment a HKU professor said the virus can live for up to 5 days outside of the human body, I know this business is over. I estimate that some degree of normality won't come back until the end of the year. As the party is disbanding, I strongly recommend you to get the contact of your favourite girl, as you might never find her again.
The whole thing reminds me of the early days of the AIDS epidemic, when the concept of intimacy was changed overnight. I think people will gradually find their ways back, but right now the fear is too fresh.

I’m still in for beginning of March.  I’m going to be optimistic and say things will be better soon simply because of all the awareness from everyone.

I’m taling it day by day but have the feeling I’ll cancel my trip to HKG. Second time cancelling after the protests. I’m hugely disappointed. I figure even if I didn’t cancel, all the tourist sites I like are closed. Considering that reported infections day by day continue growing exponentially this will take many months to clean up.

Follow up...

How you guys in Hong Kong handling things on a day to day basis? I read on other forums that life has to go on and many things are still open albeit with much less crowds. With the tourist sites closed (Ocean Park, Hong Kong Disneyland, Ngong Ping, etc.) I don't know what I would do. Is it worth walking around Mong Kong or Causeway Bay being surrounded by people? I still see my favourite retired WGs after their daytime jobs but does the MTR still close early due to protest action (when the HKPF/PLA aren't tossing tear gas into the stations)?

What's the *real* story happening there?

The protest activities related to MTR stations have let up quite a bit in the past couple of months. Protests/marches are happening still, but much less frequent. I think now the "yellow" movement is focused on putting pressure to seal the borders in view of the virus situation.

I haven't visited a WG or HE Massage in several weeks, so I can't speak to that.

MTR was much less crowded this past weekend when I was on it. Lots of people working from home. Kids out of school. There is activity in malls and shopping centers, but a lot of that seems to be geared toward people trying to buy toilet paper, hand sanitizer, masks, cleaning supplies, etc. With a bit of hording going on.

Restaurants seem to be doing less business. Heck, I think everyone except pharmacy and grocery are doing less business.

That's my take. Others may have a different perspective or experience that may be more accurate.

While the situation is serious, the Wuhan corona virus is nowhere near as widespread and deadly as the regular seasonal influenza virus, which leads to roughly 300,000 to 700,000 deaths every year, with tens of millions of infections. Of course unlike influenza, there is no vaccine available for Wuhan corona virus (yet) but I think we need to keep things in perspective.

This is true but you have to consider that the mortality rate of the coronavirus is about 30 times higher than the seasonal flu, though still only at about 2% (higher if you’re older and have pre-existing conditions).

Also because of the intense fear that this virus is generating, if you do get infected let alone display symptoms, you could be quarantined for 2 weeks which is NOT where you want to be.
