buddy of mine opened a business in Shangai last year and spends 6 months there and 6 months in Taipei,  Called me and told me to visit him as mongering is great in Shangai.  But I have read elsewhere that it is expensive.

Scootermonger - so neptune and most of the other bars around wanchai charge even asians that are obviously from overseas? Given my height and my crappy canto, I've never been confused for a native. I thought they charged locals and not foreigners (that are asian) according to the wanchai bar faq. I was planning on going to neptune during my trip to HK (recommended by the wanchai faq) but I don't want to give money to such businesses. When I go to a bar, I will spend some serious money to drink and have fun whether or not I'm there to pickup a WG. I don't like that they'll stereotype us all as cheap and unwilling to buy alchohol. Are there bars in Wanchai that don't do this kind of racially-based cover charge? I don't mind paying a cover if everyone had to pay a cover to get in.

On a side note - I am packing for my HK trip now and was wondering are there dress codes for these places in Wanchai? I looked in the faq about clothing but was not able to find any info about it. I know it might sound silly, but I want to fit in and not look out of place at these clubs/bars. I usually only pack comfy jeans/t-shirts/sneakers for trips like these, but perhaps I need collared shirts and dress slacks? Any tips on what guys should wear in the wanchai bars/clubs would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

yes, neptunes is a bit racially biased and it annoys the shit out of me.  most of the girly bars have a similar approach.  

in the club there are people who dress like worn out street rats and guys in suits, no dress code.

Maybe if they ask for a cover charge, show them your foreign ID or passport or a copy of them. This will show them you are not a local and tell them my other friends didn't pay in English. Don't know has anyone tried this.

In Beijing, Maggie. If you are Asian, they will NOT let you in unless you show them a membership card.  A membership card is a passport or foreign ID.

I would recommend you pack some collared shirts and a pair of casual loafers/leather shoes in case you want to partake some of the places in LKF too. Some of these places in LKF do not take kindly to ppl wearing sneakers (esp. sandals are a no-no) unless you are a known celebrity or a hottie.

In wanchai, jeans and boots are okay - don't see many in sneakers though. Most guys dress casual. Relaxed type atmosphere.

On mongering localities differences and quirks - I'm particularly impressed by netlan's preparation and pre-research prior to coming to Hong Kong - for indeed, I subscribe to the idea about doing what the Romans do. Hey Flowmon - First I want to thank you for your active participation on this thread and of course do appreciate your continued contribution.  But I do hope that you will try to consolidate your replies into one post as TD suggests.

I myself do write one post after another when the situation basically forces me to do so as I had already covered too many multiple subjects etc.  But whenever possible I will instead just add on to a previous post by "editing"  such previously written posts - something which I THINK you may not be aware you can do.

When you want to add something else to a previously written post, you have 48 hours or 2880 minutes to hit the "EDIT' button on the bottom of your post's page and add on this information.

We have been quite fortunate in that the Mods have given us a lot leeway on this particular thread. I also believe that TD relishes the fact that on this thread, he can basically just join in chatting away instead of having to always put up his Mod hat, like what he many times needs to do in other threads

This being so, I want to emphasize the need for ALL OF US to act responsibly and do "self-police" ourselves.  

And again thanks to you and everybody else on this thread for having kept this "self-policing" relatively effective up to now.

I realized something about aesthetics with regards to those pics of the girls in that naked girls ktv. Because the girls are not exactly fit and tone, I would probably enjoy the sight of them standing around naked or lying down just like the one who is standing in 1st pic. They look so chubby when sitting down as you can see the rolls of fat on the stomach. In that case, the girl in the 1st pic that is both wearing a pink outfit and sitting looks aesthetic more attractive bec I cannot see the rolls of fat.

It is said a naked girl is not as aesthetically sexy-looking as one that is wearing an outfit that looks like that can be removed easily in one hand motion because a sexy outfit makes one wonder what she would look naked.   ...and you know what wondering can lead to...
