I read your post #4152. Of course I agree, but at the risk of sounding aloof, I'd say this general distaste for the empowerment of women in the West is a typical, reactionary response from Chinese punters.
Take my female cousins... all first-generation Chinese-Americans, but with very strong cultural identity. Save for one, they all took a Caucasian husband. It's oft said that white guys treat their wives as equals, particularly the introverted ones who are inclined to take an Asian wife. Who wouldn't want that kind of mutual respect?
We punters naturally want to hold on to traditional Asian mores of male dominance. We are viscerally repulsed by the sight of these confident, outspoken ABC, CBC, BBC women conversing with the big strapping gweilo expat bankers! How dare they?! So we run across the border where the rural girls know who's still the boss.
