I've often noticed the turbulence when you fly over the Philippines is extra severe. Location location location... the Philippino people I have met are overwhelmingly fun, warm and caring. They have endured more than their fair share of difficulties. I'm sure we all wish them well.

I was in PI a few weeks ago. Visited the province and did get a feel of a minor typhoon.
Had to change change my travel plans as several days of missing electricity. Need this
to have my cameras working.

I've heard some unfortunate comments, which I hope are in minority, from Hong Kong people that HK should not give any help to the people of Philippines. The memory of the bus incident still seems fresh.

Yeah, I have been conversing much with my gals.  They've been lucky themselves -- their families are either living further north in Manila, or further south in Mindanao.  Man, the Taclaban area was just wiped off the map!  

Much grief remains as they try to dig out...  food, shelter, medicine all non-existent.

And.. another one is about to hit the hometown on my beloved Joann (she owns a house there).  Luckily it is s small storm.  Still, she's a little freaked out about it given the last one.

Have a friend who was away on business and his wife and little daughter were on a direct hit path.  They made it out ok, thank God.  I really feel bad for the P.I., they are just not prepared for these types of events like many western countries.  No building codes and extreme poverty lead to many deaths.  Most there also have no survival plan because they don't have the money to stockpile food and water which is so important in these types of events.

VC09 thanks for the post.  I don't even want to get into what I feel about that, except they can kiss my fucking ass with their attitude.  Wait until that shit happens to them with a massive earth quake or whatever and their attitude will change real quick.

I was watching the news today and it seems that only limited help is coming in from their own Govt, e.g. delployment of army and such.
There was lack of food supplies and no rationing at all.
I see the victims lining up for dirty water from a well/hole.

Where the fuck is the reserve and money ? What about UN or world health ?

Horribly manage as compared to China and Japan.
In China, they deploy 10 volunteers/ govt servants to  1 victim instantly within hours.
Saving and rescuing as much lives as possible within 48 hours.

Sad world we living in...

Have to admire the strength and resilience of the people of Philippines. Despite hardship and corrupt government (china and hk government are equally if not more corrupt), they find a way to get on with life, with a smile.

Slimshanks: I agree with your sentiment. Can you imagine how the princesses (and i refer to both men and women) of HK would deal with such a calamity? In fact it would be the hard working Filipino community who they would most probably turn to for help.

Sorry for the rant, I just heard a few more comments from thick Hong Kong pussies (again I refer to men) that made me angry. They were speaking in English within listening distance of me and my Filipino friend.  Again, I give benefit of doubt and will hope this is a minority view of some idiots with more money than sense.

Thats mother nature at her worst. I live here and what happened was this:

1. There was nearly a week to prepare and the news was indeed already alarming everyone including govt agencies to leave coastal areas, prepare, and evacuate.
2. People listened and Govt did do its job.
3. However it is the first time this magnitude directly hit landfall here so people had no idea what to expect
4. They expected strong winds and some coastal waves as what ALWAYS happens during typhoons.
5. But the immense speed of the wind literally threw the water in the ocean to the land creating some sort of a tsunami
6. Lots of people drowned just like the indonesia-thailand incident. However in this case, it wasnt a beach resort or a line of beaches, but the city itself. = livelihood / food all wiped out


Thank you to all governments for helping and the Philippines will always help even in trying times; even Hong Kong of course.

was lived there for an year when i was still a young guy, re-visit there two years ago, my sisters were lived there, thanks god that they were safe and leave the city to manila yesterday night.
They told me that many dead people in street, no food, no power, and no water there.

just visited the philippines (leyte, ormoc, then tacloban) on a humanitarian mission of the red cross to help with relief efforts last week.

in tacloban, the place is filled with the stench of dead. goods and help are coming in but people have no forms of shelter. we set up a mobile soup kitchen so that people can at least have warm food to eat.

it was hell. very sad. the only redeeming factor is that some filipinos are still capable of smiling and giving thanks even thru their ordeal.

Sir, You and your fellow Red Cross volounteers are  true heros and I salute you.
The devestation and heartbreak you have witnessed we can only image as TV
only portrays part of the story,it is good to know that the Fillipino people can still
smile even though they have been dealt a soul destroying disaster like this.
You are a champion in my eyes.

we here in the philippines are already slowly recovering from the typhoon. thanks GOD that the eye of the typhoon dint hot here in cebu.
