Actually your explanation of  對事不對人 makes more sense than what I learned many years ago.

glad that you can make sense of the phrase;

would this be clearer?

"personally when I replied to a post, I look at the contents of the post, never the name of the poster"

STD's

Hmmmm, I just have to wonder, why would you even want to risk getting any of those?  Herpes is the one that should scare most people, man your sex life would probably not be the same again.  However, in Taiwan if a foreigner gets Syphilis they can be deported.  Yep, you read that correctly. Even though it can be cured the government here says your out if you have it.  HIV is the same, if they find out you have it you have to leave or be deported.    There are anonymous testing sites for STD's, but in order to get the medication to cure it, probably you need to go see a doctor at which point they report it.  As they have to.  Now, like in many Asian countries there are probably loop holes, but quite honestly I don't want to have to experience any of that.  I think it is a stupid rule, but they probably have their reasons....

I do not recall though that Syphilis can be transmitted through oral sex on a guy...  Of course if you do oral on her, then there is a risk...  hmmm going to have to check this one...

The severity of Herpes varies from individual to individual. Most people have no symptoms. Supposedly one quarter of all Americans have some form of Herpes and never know it. If you've ever had a cold sore, then you have one form of Herpes.

If you want to eliminate all risk of catching Herpes, then you must never again kiss a girl.

Syphilis can be passed orally to/from anyone. The little bugger will pass happily through any mucus membrane.

You are right.  But the thought of it is scary, you don't know if you will get it or how severe it will be.  Your stats seem correct, but the cold sore is a different kind of Herpes.  Most people have gotten this from their parents or other relatives as a child, so actually it is probably closer to 80%.

There are two types of Herpes, and I think the genital herpes are different then the ones you get on your mouth that show up as cold sores.

As for syphilis... mmmmmm Well, just another reason to cover up then.  Don't want to get deported!

The situation with Herpes has gotten a bit more complex. Genital Herpes used to be mostly HSV-2, and oral Herpes HSV-1.
But now, with the increase in oral sex?, both forms are infecting both mouth and genitalia.

This is a good page for Herpes info:
