Never experienced being asked for ID , except by cops , whom I show passport and they scoot off quickly.

Guards in the main mongering buildings in TST, Jordan and CWB don't ask , the ones in other places don't have guards.

Also there is more than one entry / exit into each building , National court asks for ID at the front door but there are stairs at the back.

The main mongering buildings:

James S Lee
Observatory Road
Harelia Mansion
Champagne court B
TST Mansion

All of these places have guards , the guards however don't do anything they sit there in their cage and occassionally have a foot patrol the JSL mansion guy told me about a raid that was about to go down once and told me to come back later though. No need to show them any form of identification as they know what the men are there for , these buildings are mostly converted to WG flats with very few residential homes in them and thus the guards don't care.

National court in Jordan is mostly residential however and thus the building management don't like the fact that there are WGs in there , there was a big clear out 2007 of WGs and they moved across the road to New Lucky house which is 50% residential 50% WG.

National court is a building in Jordan, if you go in the front door guards check your ID and note it down, if you go via the back door there are no guards.National court is the only place where the guards do this as far as I know, the mansions, once it gets past mid night the mongering buildings shut their main gates and the guard goes to sleep, which you need a passcode.

Chungking / Mirador mansion close all their doors bar one where you need to show your passport to get in and also your room key.

New Lucky house also has guard cage but they don't check either the residents do look annoyed though.

CWB's Fuji building and also Hop Yee have guard cages at the lifts , the guard however never looks up from his book or monitor even though huge queues can develop in these buildings.

All the smaller establishments in the NT are often very very small and thus do not even have guards.

There is a small off chance that an undercover cop might be roaming about or cops that patrol outside such buildings (JSL mansion has a beat which goes round the block constantly so does observatory road) but if you do not loiter (loitering is a very un Hong Kong thing to do) and go straight in they won't bother you.
