I don't have any sick leave. If I am sick, I get time off according to what the doctor orders. But I do get 30 days paid vacation for each year

I hate people who milk the labour ordinance.  that's because I have to manage people.

I almost never take sick leave, because I'm seldom sick, and even when I am sick I try to go to work because, the people I manage will fuck up sometimes.

Don't you have any subordinate to assume your role when you take leave? If they aren't competent enough, you should find somebody who's competent to do the work.

2 reasons:  low head count (cuz of budget) and I can't seem to find anyone in the friggin lot that thinks the same way I do, or does things to my standard.  sad I know...just have to slowly brainwash them and train them...it will take time....if they don't leave first.

I've taken 1 day off sick in the last 3.5 years from food poisening (I had two weeks off for surgery - but I couldn't do anything about that). Personally, I don't think it's very professional to take sick leave when you can still physically get into work, and being someone who is still starting out in my career I don't want a sick record. It's what potential employers always ask for from your current employer when you move jobs.

I've wondered what HK workers generally do though, because they get such a short amount of annual leave - don't know how they do it especially with some of the hours they make you work!

There are factors to consider. For one, if you have a contagious disease, virus, bug, whatever it may be, you don't want to go to work and spread it to the rest of the company. Another issue to think about, you may make mistakes and actually being less productive than not working at all because your condition affecting your work performance.

@ Hunt - Why'd you minus two points karma dude?

@OP - My company's pretty lax. Complete your work and you won't be hassled about your sick leaves. I take them all the time. kekeke.

When I was 18 and left Grammar School to go to Uni, I got a special prize for never missing a day of school from Primary,
aged 5. Bet none of today's sickly kids will ever match that.        It was in all the papers but my
parents got all the credit.
